Army, 112th Calvary, was awarded: 2 Purple Hearts with oak leaf cluster, 3 invasion medals, 3 Bronze Stars, Victory Medal & South pacific Combat Medal. My father was in the 112th cavalry in may 1944. He enter into battle in the mountians of New Guniea aginst the 18th IMP. Japaness army along the Atipe river until 8-30-44. Entered Leyete Island 10-19-44 where he joined up with the 1st cavalry and helped invade Manlia where he was wounded in the arm but was sent back into battle after a few days. He was then wounded in the knee while chasing the Japness fleeing into the mountains by a sniper. From their he was sent home and discharged.
Army, 34th Div. 135th Inf Rgt., Frank J. Uslaber was killed on February 9th, 1944 approximately 150 yards northeast of the Abbey of Monte Cassino. While under German mortar fire, one of SSgt. Uslabar's comrades was killed by shrapnel, while attempting to render aid to the already dead soldier, a mortar round scored a direct hit on SSgt. Uslabar's position, killing him instantly. He is buried at the American Military Cemetery in Nettuno, Italy.
