The following contains the Monument Inscriptions of some of the people who came to Newfoundland, Canada from various places in Scotland. I have gathered this collection over the last year from one of the cemeteries here in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada where I live. The name of the cemetery is The General Protestant Cemetery. There are some headstones that are unreadable and others that have been damaged over the years. I will attempt to read some more of the damaged MI's later this fall.

In the General Protestant Cemetery is a Monument Inscription that tells us that it is the very first person buried there and that was in 1842. This is what was on that headstone:

In memory of John BUTT who died happy in the Lord 11th May 1842 age 58 years. He was the first person buried in this cemetery on Sunday the 15th by Rev. J Snowball who preached his cermon for the occasion the same evening from (Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not the son of man earnith.) St.Mathew 24 ch. 14 v

I have put all of the MI's in alphabetical order by last name but please feel free to read them through as a lot of the MI's contain more than one last name.
