Deacon John Dunham was a Leyden Separatist who came to Plymouth between 1628 and 1632, possibly with those who arrived from Holland in 1630.

"John Dunham was born in England in 1589, and after emigrating to the New World, lived at Plymouth till eighty years old. The public records make mention of his upright character as a lawmaker, and of his pious life as a faithful deacon of the Plymouth Church. At his death in 1668-1669 it was publicly stated on the town records that he was 'an approved servant of God, and a useful man in his place.'"

They wintered in Fort Washington (now Cincinnati), and the following spring purchased a tract of land in the dense woods of what later became Turtle Creek Township in Warren County, Ohio. They found themselves surrounded by Indians and wild beasts, and were without mills, stores, or other conveniences."

[If Joseph age is correct in census above, he was born abt 1821 - not 1830. It is more likely his age was 29. Could he be the son of Daniel Trimble instead of Moses Trimble? Because his first son was named Daniel Gideon -- Gideon was Narcissa's father, then I believe Daniel was probably Joseph's father. According to the Moultrie Co, IL census, Joseph was born in Indiana. None of Moses Trimble's children would have been born in Indiana since Moses lived his adult life in Warren Co, Ohio and died there. Date of birth in 1830 came from the Kamp Papers, vol. 2 which said that Joseph was the son of Moses. I don't believe that to be correct. If Moses had a son Joseph, it is not Joseph Jacob. As a result, I have changed Joseph J. Trimble's parentage to Daniel Trimble.]
