Mr. Rickman
Tom Rickman, 93, church and civic leader of the Cowee community, died Wednesday, November 23, in a Franklin Hospital.
He was a native of Macon County, and a son of the late Roland and Arba Zena Leatherman Rickman. He was married to the late Fannie Holbrook Rickman, who died in 1982. He owned and operated Rickman's Grocery Store for 69 years. He was a former director of the Apple Growers Association and was a former member of the Board of Directors at Angel Community Hospital. Throughout his life, he served in many different capacities and leadership roles of Cowee Baptist Church, of which he was a member for 81 years.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Zena Pearl and Ed Brogden of Franklin. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Rickman. He is also survived by one brother, Earl Rickman of Franklin; one sister, Frances Bryson of Franklin; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. in Cowee Baptist Church, with Rev. Harold Savell, Rev. Lloyd Fish and Rev. Clarence Vance officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Bennett, Earnest Childers, Bill Fouts, Charles Leatherman, Earl Simons and Charles and James Womack.
Memorials may be made to the Fannie Rickman Memorial Flower Fund of Cowee Baptist Church, c/o Dixie Shook, 62 Palmer Dr., Franklin, or Cowee Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Louise Holden, Treasurer, 115 Cowee School Ln., Franklin.
