Alex Moore Dies At 96
Alex Moore, beloved 96 year old Macon County native, died Monday at his home on Iotla Street.
Mr. Moore, one of Macon's oldest citizens, was widely known throughout the county. He had served as the sheriff of Macon County from 1908 until 1924.
A devoted church member, he had served as superintendent of the Sunday Schoool and a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of Franklin.
A pioneer in this communitty, Mr. Moore loved the old ways and the life of yesterday and it was the life he lived even in today's hustle and bustle.
Perhaps his outstanding contribution was his cheerfulness. Many Macon County natives will carry with them until they too are gone, the memory of Alex Moore's cheerful "Hello."
Born the son of the late Andrew and Mary Katherine Holbrooks Moore on July 7, 1872, he was twice married. His first wife was the late Mrs. Jane Mincey Moore; his second wife was the late Mrs. Ada Corbin Moore.
He was a member of the Junaluskee Masonic Lodge 143 in Franklin.
Services were held Wednesday in the Franklin First Baptist Church, of which he was a member for 60 years, with Dr. W. Thomas Lane directing the service. Burial followed in Macon County, North Carolina - Woodlawn Cemtery.
Active pallbearers were Gus G. Baldwin, H. H. Plemmons, B. B. Scott, John Jaminson, Bruce Bryant, and J. C. Jacobs.
