- The following is transcribed (with liberties) from a note written by J.V.A. Moore on March 5, 1954 at the age of 88. "Hayesville, N.C. March 5, 1954. Some history of my dear Father, Ira A. Moore. My father was born on Shooting Creek, North Carolina March 4th 1845. His father was Parker Moore. Parker was a son of Abner (S or G). Moore and Annie Cook Moore. Parker was their eldest son. Parker Moore married Huldah Caroline Kilpatrick. They had 2 two children Ira A. Moore and Sarah Ann Moore who married Larkin Holbrooks. Sarah Ann lived to be over 95 years old. Ira Alexander lived over 75 years of age he weighed 175 lbs. He had deep blue eyes and sandy whiskers. He farmed, taught school and was a very good carpenter and a fine bible student. Served two years in the Civil War. Ira A. Moore's sister Sarah Ann was very intelligent and handsome. My godmother Sarah Ellen Shearer Moore was a fine singer, knew many old songs. When young she weighed 108 lbs. She was praised for beauty. She had long black hair, keen piercing black eyes and a beautiful compexion. She was a great Christian and was intelligent. Death Claims Parker Moore
Former Teacher and Public Official Died After Long Illness
J. Parker Moore, 64, died at his home on Ellijay Monday morning at 9:45 o'clock after an illness of more than two years due to paralysis.
Funeral services were conducted at the Ellijay Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. J. M. Vinson of Tryphosa, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Eugene R. Eller, pastor of the Franklin Baptist church.
In Public Service
Mr. Moore was widely known throughout Macon County. He taught in the public schools of the county for a number of years, having received his education at the Cullowhee Normal Industrial school, now the Western Carolina Teachers' College. He was on the county board of education for eight years, was also assistant register of deeds and deputy sheriff and tax collector at various times. He was a member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics and of the Baptist church.
Pallbearers were: W. D. Elliott, Jim Raby, Charles W. Elliott, B. W. Justice, Charlie Elliott and Frank Cabe.
Survivors
Mr. Moore is survived by his widow and three children, Miss Katie Moore and Mrs. Anna Stewart, and Charlie Moore, all of Ellijay; one step-son Harley Stewart; three grandchildren; five borthers, Alexa dn John of Franklin, Jack and Charlie, of Ellijay and the Rev. James Moore, of DeLand, Fla.
A large crowd of relative and friends from here attended the funeral.
