Ms. Helen Ruby Beshears, age 86, died Friday, October 10, 2003
Ms. Helen Ruby Beshears, age 86, of Fletcher Street, Wilkesboro died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Britthaven Nursing Home. A graveside service was held Monday, October 13, 2003 at Mountlawn Memorial Park. Ms. Beshears was born in Guilford County to Aaron Lee and Margaret Roten Beshears. She served in the United States Army Nurse Corp during WWII. She was the first commissioned officer from Wilkes County to enter the Army. Ms. Beshears served in Africa and in Italy for three years. When she returned to Wilkes she continued her work as a nurse with the Wilkes County Health Department. She was a member of Stony Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by one brother, Joe Beshears of Knoxville, Tennessee; two nieces and one nephew. Memorials may be made to Stony Hill Baptist Church, 406 Summit Road, Purlear, North Carolina 28665. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Parents: Aaron Lee BESHEARS and Margaret Nancy ROTEN.

M. C. Beshears Dies at Age 91; Rites Saturday
Marshall Clinton Beshears, 91, of Millers Creek Route 1, died early today at Wilkes General Hospital after and extended illness.
Born in Wilkes County July 3, 1887, Mr. Beshears was the son of Cornelius Clingman and Jane Owens Beshears. He was a retired mail carrier and farmer and a member of Big Ivy Baptist Church.
The father of a large family, Mr. Beshears is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Flavil Yates Beshears; eight daughters, Mrs. Athalia Engelbert, Mrs. Clara Vannoy, Mrs. Vannie Miller, and Mrs. Mary Michael of Millers Creek, Mrs. Virginia Foster, Mrs Debbie Roten and Mrs. Cindy Mahaffey, all of North Wilkesboro, and Mrs. Viola Bustle of Statesville; seven sons, Aren Beshears of Winston-Salem, Clark and Fain Beshears of High Point, Bob and Marvin Beshears of North Wilkesboro, Neal Beshears of Millers Creek, Kenneth Beshears of the home; 38 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, William Cole Beshears of Millers Creek.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Roy Foster and the Rev. E.A. Vannoy. Burial will be in Stony Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Vannie Catherine Beshears Bates Miller
Mrs. Vannie Catherine Beshears Bates Miller, 84, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Wilkes County to the late Marshall Clinton Beshears and Martisha Roten Beshears. Mrs. Miller was a lifetime employee of Hanes Hosiery and a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church in Elkin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother Annie Flavil Beshears; her previous husband Brady Paul Bates; her late husband Rudd Guy Miller; a son Jerry Wayne Bates; four brothers, Bob Beshears, Clark Beshears, Fain Beshears and Aren Beshears; two sisters, Athalia Englebert, and Clara McNeil Vannoy.
Mrs. Miller is survived by three sons, Paul Bates Jr. and wife Lucille of Culpeper, Va., Thomas Bates of Hamptonville, and David Bates of Winston-Salem; five sisters Mary Beshears Michael, Virginia Beshears Foster, Viola Beshears Bustle, Cynthia Beshears Mahaffey, and Debbie Beshears Roten; three brothers, Marvin Beshears, Neal Beshears, and Kenneth Beshears; six grandchildren Paul William Bates, Deborah L. Hollowell, Charles E. Bates, Tonya Catherine Bates, Michael Todd Vestal, and Jennifer Lynn Bates; and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Roy Foster and the Rev. Jesse Garmon officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church cemetery in Elkin. The family received friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Parents: Marshall Clinton BESHEARS and Martisha Cordelia ROTEN.
