Mattie Elizabeth ‘Matt’ Cabe
A Methodist homemaker
Mattie Elizabeth "Matt" Keener Cabe, 89, of Warrens Creek, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003.
A native of Rabun County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Emory N. and Huldah Burnette Holbrook Keener.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Norman Cabe, who died in 1997; three brothers, Lee, Will, and George Keener; and two grandsons, Timothy Cabe and Dale Underwood. She was a member of Dryman Chapel United Methodist Church of Otto, and attended Faith United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed watching television, sewing, cooking and gardening.
She is survived by a daughter, Alice Underwood and her husband, Sam, of Clyde; a son, Ralph Cabe and wife, Linda, of Candler; a sister, Ruth Garland of Highlands; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 20, in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville with Rev. W.T. Medlin and Rev. Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial was in Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were John and Jason Cabe, Jack Rathbone, Frankie Spears, Phil Banks, Willard Garland, Gerald Keener and James Gosnell.

Death Claims Mrs. Wood, 78
Macon Native Has 284 Decendants; Rites Held Tuesday
Mrs. Sophronia Catherine Wood, a native of Macon County, died Sunday afternoon while being admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Seventy-eight years old, she has 284 living decendants. She had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist church by the Rev. Frank Reed and the Rev. Frank Holland. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Born August 9, 1873, Mrs. Wood was the daughter of James and Mrs. Vivanne Holbrooks Keener. She spent all of her life in this county. and was an active member of the Free Will Baptist church in the Walnut Grove community. She was married in 1889 to. J.T. Wood, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are two sons, Fred Wood, of Gneiss, and Frank Wood of Clyde; nine daughters, Mrs. Rule Hedden of Franklin, Route 3, Mrs. Lillie Ford, of Gastonia, Mrs. Roxie McCall, of Franklin, Mrs. Fannie Hedden, of
Gneiss, Mrs. Nellie Hedden, of Chesnee, S.C., Mrs. Hattie Fox, of Sylva, Mrs. Callie Daves, of Washington state, Ellie Gregory, of Gneiss; 119 grandchildren, 149 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
The following grandsons were pallbearers; Algie McCall, Gilmer, Hayes and Eugene Gregory, Raymond Wood, and B.H. Hedden.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bryant Funeral home. Parents: James Marion KEENER and Ruah Vian HOLBROOK.
