Mrs. Downs
Rosa Belle Houston Downs, age 91, of the Rose Creek Community, died Friday, Oct. 21, at her residence, following a period of declining health.
She was a native of Macon County, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Hollbrook Houston.
She was a homemaker, and was the widow of the late Charlie Downs, who died in 1964.
She was a member of the Iotla Baptist Church and was the oldest member attending there.
Surviving are a daughter, Jessie D. Cabe, a son, Troy Downs, both of Franklin; three sisters, Eva Lowe, Cuba Hughes and
Ellen Holden all of Franklin; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. in the Iotla Baptist Church, with Revs. Jud Duvall and David Noyes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Tippett, Wade Roper, Larry Roper, Benny Reynolds, and Roy Holden.
Memorials may be made to the Rose Creek Baptist Church, c/o Lucille McCall, Route 8, Franklin or the Iotla Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Pete Penland, 156 Maid Street, Franklin. Parents: John William HOUSTON and Elizabeth Ann HOLBROOK.
