Coy Higdon
Coy Higdon, 51 of Second Street, Franklin, died Friday, October 20, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Macon County, he was the son of Kate Williams Higdon and the late William Frederick Higdon. He was a carpenter and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was recently attending the Prentiss Church of God. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Higdon; and three sisters, Iva Lee Clouse, Rachel Ruth, and Frankie Higdon.
He is survived by his mother, Kate Williams Higdon of Franklin, three sons, Charles Coy Higdon, Terry Higdon, and Freddy Higdon, all of Savannah, Georgia; a step - daughter, Lavada Sproul of Brevard, N.C.; two brothers, Troy Higdon of Danielsville, Georgia and Robert Higdon of Franklin, North Carolina; five sisters, Ruby Speed of Clayton, Georgia, Virginia Howard of Arlington, Washington, Mildred Bradley of Danielsville, Georgia, Ruth Oden and Bonnie Bradley both of Franklin, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23 in the Prentiss Church of God. Rev. Don Moffitt, Rev. Gary McCoy and Rev. Judson Hall will officiate. Burial was in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 22, at Macon Funeral Home. Parents: William Frederick "Fred" HIGDON and Kate WILLIAMS.

"Uncle Ed' Higdon's Music On Harmonica Is Stilled"
The man with the harmonica, 'Uncle Ed' is dead.
Declining health curtailed the entertaining activites of 81 year old "Uncle Ed" in recent months and Wednesday of last week, March 19, he died at Angel Clinic.
"Uncle Ed's " rendition of " She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain" sparked many a benefit performance over the county and he'd walk for miles just to play.
Funeral services for the Macon County native, who was a charter member of the First Baptist Church here, were conducted the afternoon after his death at the Savannah Methodist Church in Jackson County. Officiating were the Rev. Bill Sorrells and the Rev. Paul Sorrells. Burial was in the church cemetery. Born August 19, 1876, "Uncle Ed" was the son of Thomas Bragg, Sr., and Mrs. Mollie West Higdon. He farmed in the Iotla section. He was married in 1911 to Miss Maggie Cabe, of Jackson County, who died in 1938.
Surviving are two sons, Bragg and Claude Higdon, of Franklin, Route 5; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Guthrie, of Asheville, and Miss Margaret Higdon, of Franklin, Route 3, his stepmother, Mrs. T.B. Higdon, Sr. of Franklin, Route 5; 11 half-brothers, Major, John, Ted, and Grayson, all of Route 5, Alfred R. and Sam of Franklin, Lefferts of Route 4, Leslie B., and R.B., Jr., of Asheville, Charlie, of North Brookfield, Mass., and Paul, of West Brookfield, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Vinnie Wilson, of Glenville, and Mrs. Mary Brown, of Ball Ground, Ga.; a half-sister, Mrs. Ellen Smith, of Franklin; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were Lawson Shook, Harry Moses, Billy Ramsey, Clayton Ramsey, Walter Dean, and Lyman Higdon.
Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Parents: Thomas Bragg HIGDON and Mary Jane "Mollie" WEST.
