Mrs. Higdon
Ila Edith Higdon, 85, of 171 Jack Cabe, R. died Sunday, Aug. 29, in an Asheville hospital.
A native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Walter David Elliott and Ida Belle Corbin. She was a school teacher at the Holly Springs school for a number of years. She was lifelong member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church, the Girls' Auxiliary leader, and a member of the Women's Missionary Union and the Holly Springs Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lewis Lefferts Higdon, a son, Milton Higdon of Forest City; a daughter, Marilyn Myers of Asheville; fours sisters Emma Elliott of Asheville, Pauline Ramsey of Charlotte, Dewell Hyatt of Candler and Ina Bell Williams of Franklin; a brother, W. D. Elliott of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Holly Springs Baptist Church, with Chaplin Tami Higdon, grandaughter, and Rev. Eddie Trull officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 525 Cat Creek Rd., Franklin.
