William ‘Bill' Conley
William "Bill" Conley, 87, of the Georgia Road, Franklin, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at a local nursing facility.
A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Ingram and Sadie Justice Conley.
A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he was in the 698th Field Artillery Battalion, the first unit to shell the Po River Valley in Italy. Attaining the rank of sergeant, he was the commander of the crew operating "Annie the Orphan," an 8-inch gun. He was a member of the Franklin VFW Post 7339, and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his sister, Katherine Holbrooks of Otto; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, at 2 p.m., at Wright Cemetery. The Franklin VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will officiate and conduct complete military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m., at Bryant Funeral Home, prior to the graveside service. Parents: William Ingram CONLEY and Sadie Rosseta JUSTICE.
