Daniel Webster Pickle

Chop fine 1/2 pk green tomatoes, 25 cucumber pickles, 15 good sized onions (white).

Chop Large heads cbbage. Pack in large jar with 1 cup salt. Stand 24 hrs.

Drain & pour over this a scalding hot pickle made of 2 qts best cider vinegar, 1 1/2 lbs. brown sugar, t tbsp turmeric, 1/2 teacup black pepper (ground) 1 oz celery seed, 3 or 4 ripe tomatoes or equivalent in canned. Scald well & pour over drained vegetables. When cold mix 1/4 lb. mustard seed, 1 dessert spoon curry powder, 1 c. olive oil.

 

"Kiss" Torte

6 egg whites beaten very stiff. Add 2 c. granulated sugar; beat again until stiff. Add 1 tbsp vinegar & tsp vanilla. beat 10 minutes.

Bake in tins. grease tins, flour, then sprinkle with sugar. Bake like kisses.

Serve with whipped cream.

 

Gold Cake

11 yolks eggs 3/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. Subar 2 c. flour
1/2 c. milk 2 tsp baking powder

Just before putting in oven mix in 2 tbsp boiling water

 

Angel Food I

12 whites eggs beaten until frothy.
Then add 1 level tsp cream tartar and beat until stiff but not dry. Sift 6 times and measure after sifting 1 1/2 cups (level) pastry flour and 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar.

Fold lightly into the beaten whites a little at the time, first flour, then sugar, alternately, until all is aded. Pour in an ungreased pan, put in oven and turn on gas very low. Leave for 40 minutes, then increase heat a little and bake 20 minutes longer. Turn upside down and leave until cold and it will fall from pan.
