TWOREK
In December 2018 I received a Facebook friend request from
Dominika in Poland who was looking to find more about her ancestor
Anna Tworek. Dominika had found a reference to an Anna Tworek on
my webpage and thought it might be her relative. We
determined that Anna Tworek was Dominika's great great
grandmother, who gave birth to a daughter, Ewa, in 1909. Not
long after Ewa's birth, Anna left her daughter in Poland and
immigrated to the United States, married and raised a
family. They do not remember any other details about
her. I found Anna on a ship manifest in 1910, but have had
no luck in finding her. 
Through further correspondence I learned that
Dominika's Anna Tworek was born in the village of Tylmanowa, near
Nowy Sącz. The Anna Tworek on my webpage was a sister of my
great great grandmother Marianna Tworek Sztorc, born in Łęki
G�rne, Galicia, Austria Poland, now in Podkarpackie in southeast
Poland. My Anna married and lived in Poland all of her life.
Tylmanowa is 115 km southwest of Łęki G�rne. The microfilmed baptism records for Tylmanowa are
indexed on FamilySearch.org. Tylmanowa
index There is one Anna Tworek in the index, baptized 25 Jul 1891, daughter of Joannes Tworek and Agnes Sopata.
Some of the FamilySearch microfilms have been digitized. The Tylmanowa images can be viewed at a FamilySearch Family History Center or an affiliate library. The main library in my home Omaha, Nebraska, is an affiliate. I spent some time viewing the parish records. The actual record for Anna Tworek shows the baptism date is 25 Jun 1891 and not July.
Other ancestral villages of Anna Tworek are Zabrzeż and Maszkowice. This map shows all three locations.
I found Anna Tworek on a ship manifest coming to the Port of New York in 1910, going to be with a friend in Connecticut. Where she went after that is unknown, possibly Chicago, Illinois. While I currently have nothing more than the ship manifest for Anna's presence in the U.S., I was able to trace Anna's family back a few generations using the FamilySearch baptism index and the online digitized records. The church records are in Latin, so I have put the names in Latin as they were recorded in the church books and included the Polish equivalent.

Dominika said she thinks her ancestor went to Chicago, Illinois. I followed up on a few Anna Tworek's in Chicago, but none of them were from Tylmanowa.
I found two Anna Tworeks, whose age corresponds to the Tylmanowa Anna, married in Chicago, one to a Stanley Augustyn, but she was born in Leki Gorne and her parents' names (Bartholomew Tworek and Marianna Miczek) do not match the Tylmanowa baptism record.
Another Anna Tworek married Joannes Grela; this Anna was born in Chicago, and the parents (Joannes Tworek and Angela Madura) do not match the Tylmanowa record. There are other Anna Tworeks, but the ages do not mesh with the baptism record.

| There are four
children born to Joannes and Agnes listed in the Tylmanowa
baptism index, the earliest was born in Jul 1885. I
searched the Tylmanowa marriage records from 1885 back to
1871, but did not find a record for Jan and Agnieszka. The Tylmanowa baptism index has no entry for Agnieszka Sopata. I broadened my search and found records in the nearby village of Zabrzeż for: Agnes Sopek, daughter of Jacobus Sopek and Hedvigis Baziak, baptized 2 Jan 1866 Her surname is Sopata on the actual record, Sopek is an error in the indexing. The microfilm that has the marriages for Zabrzeż is not digitized. |

| Daughter Josepha,
born 18 Mar 1850, was the first child born to Adalbertus
and Anna. I found four siblings of Adalbertus in the FamilySearch baptism index, born between 1832 and 1838. It appears Adalbertus' father married again and had two other children born 1841 and 1843. If Adalbertus was about 19 or 20 at marriage he would have been born around 1830. The baptisms on microfilm 1896705 from May 1793 thru Jan 1830 are missing, so there is no digital copy nor are they indexed. I will look for the marriage record of Adalbertus and Anna the next time I go to the library. It should have their age at the time of marriage included on the record. |

City, Utah, Family History Library. The FamilySearch
baptism index
for Zabrzeż begins with 1820. The only digital
baptism records viewable at the local library are from
1844-1916. Hedwig \ Jadwiga was born in Maszkowice. Only the FamilySearch baptism index is available; it begins with July 1787. |
