Joseph H. Thomas of Platte Center, NE passed away Saturday, December 7,
1985 at the Skilled Care Unit at Dodge County Memorial Hospital in
Fremont, NE. Services were held at 10 A.M. Mass Tuesday at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church in Platte Center, NE with Rev. Milton Thomas, a nephew,
of Kalamazoo, Mich. officiating, assisted by Rev. Charles Zach of
Elkorn, NE, Rev. Leo Kreikemeier, Platte Center, NE, Rev. John Starostka
of Cedar Rapids, NE, Rev. John Downey of Columbus, NE, Rev. Joseph
Miksch of Duncan, NE. Burial was in St. Joseph's Patrick Catholic
Cemetery at Platte Center, NE. Casket bearers were Gary Loseke, John
Wlaschin, John Wemhoff, George Anderson, Dean Goering, and Francis
Hennessey. Visitation was from 1 to 5 P.M. Monday at McGown Funeral Home
in Columbus, after 6:00 P.M. Monday and until service time Tuesday at
the Church. Grandsons Jim and Jeff Thomas were Mass Servers.
Mr. Thomas was the son of the late Ferdinand and Agnes Schneck Thomas
and was born Oct. 22, 1910 at Humphrey, NE. He attended St. Francis
School in Humphrey and Holy Family in Lindsay, NE. He married Eleanor
Ann Zach on November 7, 1939 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierce,
Nebraska. Mr. Thomas resided most of his life in Platte County, for six
years in Columbus and forty years in Platte Center. He was a farmer, a
spray painter at Habco and Soil Movers for 28 years. Surviving are his
wife, Eleanor Ann of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Jo Ann)
Morgan, Fremont, NE, Leona Galley, Columbus, NE, Mrs. Erwin (Carolyn)
Lichtenfeld Platte Center, NE, eight sons, Gerald, Fremont, NE, Alfred,
York, NE, William, Utica, Michigan, Edward, Columbus, NE, David,
Columbus, NE, Joseph Jr., Columbus, NE, Daniel, Columbus, NE and
Richard, Columbus, NE; 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; four
sisters, Mrs. William (Erna) Steiner, Columbus, NE, Mrs. Everett
(Martha) Jones, Columbus, NE, Mrs. Fred (Rose) Hoffmann, Battle Creek,
NE, Mrs. Paul (Hildegarde) Franks, Riverview, Mich. He was preceded in
death by six brothers and two sisters: Herman, Rudolph, Adolph, Helmuth,
Raymond, and Fred, Mrs. Rudolph (Margaret) Steiner, Mrs. Henry
(Veronica) Kuhlen, and one brother and two sisters in infancy. Organist
was Bert Feik. Cantors: Kevin Jarecki and Steve Greisen.
