H. Thomas Funeral Service Held Sept. 19
Died at Litchfield, Minn., While on Way to Mayo Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Rosholt, S. D., for
Helmuth Thomas, who died at Litchfield, Minn., as he was being taken to
the hospital at Rochester, Minn., for an operation. The services were
held at 9 o'clock in the morning at St. John's Catholic church in
Rosholt with Rev. Father Engelbart reading the requiem mass. Interment
was made in the Rosholt Catholic cemetery.
The deceased, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomas, was born in Norfolk,
Nebr., on July 13, 1893. He received his education in that city and
when his parents moved to the St. Mary's community he came with them and
also remained under the parental roof when the family moved to a farm
near Creston. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Brockhaus, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Brockhaus, the wedding having taken place at
St. Francis church in this city on February 13, 1917. He farmed in this
community and in 1921 he and his family moved to Roberts county, South
Dakota, locating near Rosholt, where he had since resided.
Besides his wife he is survived by nine children, three sons and six
daughters. They are Arnold, Sylvester and Emmanuel Thomas, all at home;
Mrs. Everett Hahn and Mrs. Wm. Foltz of Rosholt, Mrs. Arnold Braun of
White Rock, S. D., and Eleanor, Evelyn and Alice at home.
His father, Fred Thomas of White Rock, S. D., and six brothers and six
sisters also survive. His brothers and sisters are: Herman Thomas of
Newman Grove, Nebr., Adolph Thomas of Albion, Nebr., Raymond Thomas of
Wyandotte, Mich., Rudolph Thomas of Browns Valley, Minn., Frederick
Thomas of Columbus, Nebr., Mrs. Wm. Steiner of Humphrey, Nebr., Mrs.
Rudolph Steiner of Creston, Nebr., Mrs. Veronica Kuhlen of Platte
Center, Nebr., Mrs. Frederick Hoffman of Norfolk, Nebr., Mrs. Everett
Jones of Columbus, Nebr., and Mrs. Hildegard Franks of Sioux Falls, S.
D., there are eight grandchildren surviving. His mother and one son
preceded him in death.
In addition to immediate members of the family the following from a
distance were present at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Thomas of
Albion, Nebr., Ray Thomas, Wyandotte, Mich., Mrs. Rudolph Steiner of
Creston, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Thomas of Brownsville, Minn., Fred
Hoffman, Norfolk, Nebr., Mrs. Wm. Steiner and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Brockhaus of Humphrey, Nebr., Mrs. John Wemhoff and daughters, Agnes and
Dorothy, of Cottonwood, Idaho, Ed. Wieser of Fairmount, N. D., Mr. and
Mrs. Ed. German of Hankinson, N. D., Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Wieser, Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Wieser and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wieser of Hankinson, N. D., and
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wieser of Dumont, Minn.
