Herman C. Thomas Rites At Holy Family

Funeral services were held Saturday forenoon for Herman C. Thomas, 76. The services were held at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic church in Lindsay. Rosary was read at 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Jacobson-Motl Funeral Home in Newman Grove. Serving as casket bearers were Dennis Steiner, Ralph Steiner, LaVern Steiner, Jerry Thomas, Alfred Thomas, and Leon Kuhlen. Burial was in Hope cemetery at Newman Grove. Herman C. Thomas was born January 17, 1890, at Statten Germany, the son of Ferdinand and Agnes Schneck Thomas. He came to the United States with his family at the age of 3 years. He was one of sixteen children. On December 25, 1912, he was married to Elsie King of Pierce. To this union one daughter and two sons were born. Mr. Thomas farmed in the Newman Grove community thirty-one years. He and his wife moved into Newman Grove when he retired from the farm several years ago. He spent fifteen days at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Norfolk and passed away there Wednesday night. Survivors are his wife, Elsie; a daughter, Helen, Mrs. George A. Dixon, of Terre Haute, Indiana; two sons, Al and David of Newman Grove; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and ten sisters and brothers, Erna (Mrs. Wm. Steiner), Columbus, Margaret (Mrs. Rudy Steiner) Clarkson, Rose (Mrs. Fred Hoffman), Battle Creek, Verona (Mrs. Henry Kuhlen), Platte Center, Martha (Mrs. Everett Jones), Columbus, Hilda (Mrs. Paul Franks), Wyandotte, Mich., Adolph Thomas, Albion, Ray Thomas, Wyandotte, Mich., Fred Thomas, Norfolk, and Joe Thomas, Platte Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters.
