Following are photos of the tombstones in the Downing Family Cemetery. Bruce and I visited the Downing Cemetery June 22, 2002. Bruce's Aunt Faye SANDLER THOMPSON was laid to rest here in February 2002. Many of Faye's husband's ancestors/relatives are buried in this rural family cemetery, which was located on the Downing Family homeplace.

Mack (Malachi) and Sallie STILL DOWNING are the Grandparents of our Uncle (related through marriage).
Mack and Sallie were enumerated in the 1920 Oklahoma census in Mayes County Murphy Township, residing on a farm. Mack, of the Indian race, was 61 years old. Sallie, of the Indian race, was listed as 43 years old. Three children were enumerated with them: Robert, age 17; Beulah, age 13; and Drucilla, age 10. Robert and Beulah married a sister and brother, Gracie Lea THOMPSON and Roy Franklin THOMPSON respectively. These two couples are also buried here in the Downing Cemetery. |
