The passing of Robert Sandelier, chairman of the Clayton Sewerage Authority will be deeply felt by Clayton Borough officials and the community.

Sandelier died last Thursday, Janauary 14, in Bridgeton Hospital. He was 75.

"Bobby Sandelier was a good friend to everyone in time of need," said retired Municipal Judge Alex C. Alampi. "During the 40 years I have know him, I don't know of anyone who has done more for Clayton."

Sandelier, who devoted much of his time and talents to the Borough of Clayton, was born in Paoli, Pa., and moved to Clayton when he was a boy and spent the rest of his life there.

He was he former owner and operator of Sandelier and Company Welders in Clayton, which was in operation for 45 years and was also the former owner of Sandy's Island Campground in Elk Township.

Sandelier was Clayton's building inspector for 18 years and was also a charter member of the Clayton Sewerage Authority, established in 1956. He served as chairman of the Authority for the past 25 years. Sandelier also served as Director of the Clayton Public Works Department for a number of years.

Sandelier was a past member of the Clayton Board of Education and was also in charge of building the Clayton Municipal Building and the borough'- (sic) first Little League field.

He was a past member of the Clayton Kiwanis Club and was awarded the "Man of the Year" award in 1976 for his many achievements in the community.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; a son, Robert L. of Clayton; three daughters, Jeanne Schoellkopf, Susan and Kathleen, all of Clayton; two sisters, Dolly Razzi, of Glassboro and Edith Banks of Holywood, Florida; and three granddaughters.

A viewing was held last Saturday morning at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, Williamstown and graveside services were held at Cedar Green Cemetery, Clayton.
