Roger, the founder of the Preston line, came to America in 1635 on the ship, Elizabeth. He settled in Ipswich, MA. In the next generation, the family had close ties to both the Towne and Putnam families of Salem. Roger's son, Thomas married Rebecca Nurse, daughter of Rebecca (Towne) Nurse who was tried and executed for witchcraft. Roger's great, great grandson, John Preston had 12 children of which 10 were sons - 8 of these served in the Revolutionary War. Read about Roger's son, Samuel Preston.
