Robert Lord of Sudbury, co. Suffolk, England served as Town Clerk of Ipswich, MA from 1645 until death 1683. He was clerk of Court in Salem from 1646. No name is oftener met in the Colonial records for this section than Mr. Robert Lord's. His life was occupied in the details of the courts. By virtue of his office as clerk, he was also registrar of probate. His clerkship covered a period of forty seven years. One of his daughters, Sarah (Lord) Wilson, was tried for witchcraft in Salem, but released after a long imprisonment and forced to "confess." |
