From Goffstown, NH.1 According to Morse, p. 185: "(?) perhaps, who rm. from Goffstown, N.H., to Bristol, Me." Also, p. 197, Morse suggests that Jesse is either the younger brother or son of Benjamin, Jr. (976).2

Joseph Hardy was born on 22 June 1734 at Dover, Strafford, NH.1 He married Sarah Richards at Belfast, Waldo, ME, in 1768.1 Joseph died on 3 April 1815 at Camden, Knox, ME, at age 80.1

According to Morse: "James, 2d, figures conspicuously in Lock's able History of Camden, as a bold, hardy and enterprising pioneer in a new country. He was the first planter of that town, where wild animals were so plenty that he killed in a few years no less than 30 bears and 70 moose. He was by occupation a miller1." He married Betsey (Hassen) Hassam. James was born at Dover, Strafford, NH, in 1743.2,3 He was the son of James Richards and Sarah Foss. He resided at Bristol, Lincoln, ME, in 1767.4 He resided in May 1769. According to Morse he "settled near the harbor, on land in the rear of the Patch House.".4 James died on 27 October 1821 at Camden, Knox, ME.5,3

According to McDuffee: "He served throughout the Revolutionary War; was in the battle of Bunker Hill and at the surrender of Ticonderoga, where he narrowly escaped capture. He was also at the battle of Bennington and at the surrender of Burgoyne. Hi is remembered by many now living. The following lines are commemorative of Richards and his mill: Roll on, fair river! yield your torrent still And turn with vigorous sweep Old Richards' mill. While others sing the men and deed of fame, Be ours to consecrate Old Richards' name. For oft the aged miller at his hearth Detained our boyish troop with well-timed mirth; Told us strange tales, nor waited to be pressed. Laughing old man! he loved the tale and the jest; Strong was his arm, and while the mill went round, He hooped his pails and tubs with clattering sound. His long gray coat with dust was thick beset; His broad-brimmed hat was hat and epaulette; Nor was he all for jesting, - in a trice He sober grew, and gave us sage advice, With shake of head and keen emphatic eye Descanting loud on truth and honesty. But baffled oft to make his audience hear, When wheels and tubs and hammer claimed the ear, He raised his voice, and with its accents shrill Defied the deafening clamor of the mill." 1 According to Morse: "John entered the army of the revolution as a voluteer, was in the battle of Bunker Hill, at the surrender of Ticonderoga, in the battle of Bennington, and at the surrender of Burgoyne. He m. Sarah Bickford of Rochester, inherited the homestead in the village of Norway Plains in R., including the 'living spring,' now owned by Hart Early, Esq. " 2 John died. Martha was born at Haverhill, Essex, MA, before 1775.1 She married Caleb Richards before 1791.1 Martha died on 8 January 1845.1

He married Lucy Belknap. Joseph was born on 30 January 1770.1 He was the son of Daniel Richards and Hannah Sawyer. Joseph died on 9 August 1838 at age 68.2
