This is on my father's side of the family.   A few interesting stories surfaced about this family when I started researching it.   One is that William Wesley Kirkland was believed to be a Texas Ranger and that his wife was a Cherokee Indian from Oklahoma. I am currently checking the status of William Wesley as a Texas Ranger, but the fact that his wife Amanda Elrod was a Cherokee causes problems.  There are two known pictures of her one with my aunt in Georgia and the other with my dad's cousin in Texas of he in full Indian dress.  I will have to do some more research on this but it is a summer project since I am a college student.   If you have any questions email me at [email protected]
