DOC. MARKED "MR. CHAS. J. DEBEVOISE" 12/24/1888 I enclose herewith a statement of account of the executors of the estate of James DeBevoise dec'd which is substantially correct; the item, "amounts received and paid out", will probably vary a little upon further examination, owing to the fact that the Executors have taken receipted bills for repairs etc., for rent, and in the payment of bills against the estate, have succeeded in getting reductions. The amounts thus saved have been credited to the estate while the bills are receipted as presented. The actual cash in the Executors hands at this date is $761.44 and as the have kept the estate fund separate from their own, from the first, probably errors have been made in entering the amount received and paid out. In the accounting before the Surrogate the mistakes will be found, involving as it does the examination of over one hundred vouchers and about three times as many entries in the books and as the whole matter must be restated before the Surrogate, I do not deem the amount involved of sufficient importance to warrant the expenditure of more time on it at present. The item designated, "balance to be distrubited $81841.67", is subject to an alleged claim of Mrs. Elmira Betts of $4605.45 with interest from January 1, 1884 which the Executors believe to be without foundation and have duly rejected, it is also subject to the expenses of administration, commissions of Executors & expenses of the accounting; none of which can be determined before the final accounting. The reamainder will be divided according to the directions of Mr. DeBevoise's Will. The Executors desire me to say further that if any of those interested in the estate wish to purchase any of the real estate (except the farm at Hollis, which Mr. A. J. DeBevoise has elected to take) at the prices designated and apply their share in the estate to the payment of it, they may do so, and if more than one should wish any particular lot, at the price named, they shall bid for it making the price named the starting price. They already have a contract for the sale of one lot as shown by the statement, and are negotiating for the sale of others at private sale, if they are successful the estate will be saved the expense of a public sale and the prices will probably be more satisfactory; at all events the Executors are anxious to close the estate as speedily as the interests of all concerned will allow, and if those interested do not care to purchase, and they are unable to sell at private sale within a very short time, the Executors will make a public sale of the whole. Dated, December 24, 1888. Yours Resp'y Edward L.
