John was a resident of Alleghany Co, VA in 1850 at age 9. John enlisted on August 7th, 1861 at age 20 in the Fredericksburg Artillery. He died in Richmond, VA of typhoid fever on June 25th, 1862. Some of his papers are on file at the Virginia Historical Society.
