Will of Thomas Otridge 1724 (Note: His Fulling Mill would have been on the River Frome and thus his property was probably in both Wilts and Somerset ie Archdeaconry of Wells and Sarum respectively hence a PCC Will) I Thomas Otridge of Tellisford in the County of Somerset fuller being of perfect mind and memory tho' weak of Body do hereby make and ordain my last Will and Testament in manner following viz Imprimis I commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my my body to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named And as touching what temporal Estate it has pleased God to lend me I give and bequeath the same as followeth Imprimis I give and bequeath unto Mary my now Wife all my Estate Interest property ??? and demand in a certain Tenement in Tellisford aforesaid called Tellisford fulling Mills and in another Tenement wherein Edward Jones Clothier now liveth in Tellisford aforesaid with their and every of their appurtenances together with all other my Estate or Estates both Real and personall money Goods Chattles ??? and Effects whatsoever whereof I am now possessed or might or might to be possessed Item I give to unto my said wife all money now owing or which at the time of my decease shall or may be owing unto me whatsoever or wheresoever upon Condition nevertheless that my said Wife shall with all convenient speed after my decease ??? and ??? out of the same or some part thereof the sum of One hundred and Twenty pounds of lawfull British money and ??? out the same at Interest by and with the consent and good liking of my father in law Simon Wadham of Whitemill in the parish of Froom Selwood in the County of Somerset aforesaid fuller and of Edward Jones of Tellisford aforesaud Clothier And my Will is that the said Sum of One hundred and twenty pounds shall be so proferred for benefit of my Children in manner following that is to say I give the said reserved sum of One hundred and twenty pounds to be equally divided between such Children as shall be born to my said wife or in ??? so ??? at the time of my decease to be payd unto him her or them as he she or they shall attain respectively unto the age of One and twenty years by equal shares and proportions and if either of them happen to dye before he she or they attain to that age such share or shares to remain to the Survivors or Survivor of them and in case they all dye before either of them attain that age then one half to remain to my said Wife and the other half to my sister Marjery Bussle and their Assigns separately And as touching the income and profit of the said Sum of One hundred and twenty pounds before they shall attain the respective age or ages of twenty and one years each or either of them or all dye together with all other things above bequeathed upon Condition and in order for my said wife to maintain and breed up all and every such Child or Children born or to be born of her Body begotten by me as abovesaid the residue thereof if any shall happen to be (my debts and funerall Expenses being paid first) to be at the disposal of her and her Executors and Assigns for ever And her my said wife I do hereby make nominate and appoint sole Executrix of this my last Will desiring Simon Wadham and Edward Jones aforesaid to assist my said Wife in the Execution hereof as much as in them lyes In Witness whereof I the said Thomas Otridge have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the twenty eighth day of July One thousand Seven hundred twenty and four in the tenth year of the Reign of George by the grace of God King of Great Britain -- Signed Thomas Otridge -- Signed Sealed and Published by the Testator Thomas Otridge to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribe our names as Witnesses hereunto in his presence Margatt Wadham John Barn4es Joseph Long his mark Latin probate statement at foot of will abstract: Probate granted in London by John Bettesworth 7 Feb 1724/5 to Mary OtridgeUpdated on 16 Mar 2006
