Will of Thomas OATRIDGE of BUTLER's COURT in the Parish Lechlade Co. Glos Gentleman THE LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF ME THOMAS OATRIDGE OF BUTLERS COURT IN THE PARISH OF LEACHLADE IN THE Co. OF GLOUC. gentleman which I hereby make publick & declare in manner & forme following ffirst I commend my soul to Almighty God hoping for a joyful resurrection at the last day through the merits of my Saviour Jesus Christ . My body I commit to the earth to be decently buried agreeable to the order & direction of my TRUE & FAITHFUL WIFE hereinafter named & as to my temporal & wordly estat I dispose thereof in manner & form following that is to say I WILL & DIRECT that all my just debts ffuneral & testamentary expenses be the first paid & satisfied by my Executor hereinafter named ITEM I give & bequeath unto my SAID WIFE ANN OATRIDGE the sum of 1 000 pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto her at the time & manner following that is to say - the sum of 200 pounds part thereof immediately on my decease 200 pounds other part thereof at the end of 3 calendar months next after my decease & 600 pounds the residue of the said legacy at the end of 6 calendar months after my decease ALSO I GIVE unto my SAID WIFE ALL MY HOUSEHOLD GOODS & FFURNITURE of household plate lenen china glass & brewing utensils of what nature soever (EXCEPT 3 silver salvers with MY CREST ENGRAVED THEREON & ALSO 3 silver castors ) unto my said wife her executors admins.& assigns absolutely. ALSO I GIVE UNTO MY SAID WIFE the use & enjoyment of the said EXCEPTED 3 SILVER SALVERS & 3 SILVER CASTORS for her life & after her decease I give them to MY BROTHER SIMON OATRIDGE & the said castors I give to MY SISTER ANN MATTHEWS. ALSO I GIVE ALL & VERY MY FFREEHOLD & LEASEHOID MESSUAGES LANDS TENEMENTS & hereditaments situate in the PARISH OF LECHLADE aforesaid & in CHARFIELD in Co. GLOUC. with their appurtenances unto & to the use of my SAID WIFE & her assigns for her natural life & immediately after her decease I give the same to the use of my BROTHER SIMON OATRIDGE his heirs Execs. Adms. & assigns. ALSO I GIVE unto my BROTHER IN LAW WALTER MATTHEWS OF Newgate Street LONDON cheesemonger 000 pounds STOCK IN THE 3 % CONSOLIDATED BANK ANNUITIES to be transferred to him by my Executor immediately after my decease UPON TRUST for the intents hereinafter declared that is to say UPON TRUST that he WALTER MATTHEWS & his Execs. & Admins. shall pay the interest etc to my SAID WIFE for her natural life & immediately after her decease then IN TRUST to transfer 1 000 pounds STOCK part of the said 4 000 unto MY NIECE MARY MATTHEWS daughter of the said WALTER MATTHEWS for her own use AND UPON FURTHER TRUST to asign & transfer 1 000 pounds STOCK another part of the said 000 unto MY SISTER ANNE MATTHEWS for her own sole use AND UPON FATHER TRUST to transfer 2 000 Stock the residue of the 4 000 unto my BROTHER SIMON OATRIDGE for his own use ALSO I GIVE unto the said WALTER MATTHEWS 200 pounds STOCK in the 3% CONSOLIDATED BANK ANNUITIES to be unto him also transferred by my Executor immediately after my decease upon the TRUSTS for the purpose that the said WALTER MATTHEWS his Execs. & Admins. shall pay the INTEREST to MY COUSIN LYDIA DEBTON & her assigns during the term of her natural life & after her decease UPON TRUST to transfer the 200 pounds STOCK unto the then VICAR & CHURCHWARDENS OF LECHLADE THE INTEREST to be paid on the 14 Feb yearly & to be paid amongst the oldest poor people of the PARISH OF LECHLADE who do not receive the common or publick alms of relief of the said Parish. I ALSO GIVE UNTO THE VICAR & CHURCHWARDENS OF LECHLADE 200 pounds STOCK in the said 3% CONSOLIDATED BANK ANNUITIES to be unto them assigned by my Executor 100 hundred pounds STOCK into the establishment & support of the schools to be kept on Sundays in the Parish of Lechlade for the education of the poor boys & girls living in the Parish & the VICAR etc to pay the interest of the remaining 100 pounds STOCK into the box of the Benefit Club or Society now held in Lechlade if such Club is dissolved then the interest to support the Schools to be kept on Sundays for the poor boys & girls. AND I EXPRESSLY DECLARE the legacies & bequests hereuntofore by me given to HER MY SAID WIFE are intended to be & are so given to her in full for her JOINTURE or any provision made for her by any settlement in writing made previous to MY MARRIAGE & in bar of HER DOWER & in case my WIFE shall not accept of the provisions etc made by me in full for her JOINTURE in that case the several legacies given to her shall be void. ITEM I GIVE TO MY SAID SISTER ANN MATTHEWS 200 pounds I GIVE TO MY GOD DAUGHTER MARY MATTHEWS 50 pounds TO MY GOD SON RICHARD SWINERTON 10 pounds & GODSON RBT WIGHT 20 pounds. TO JAMES COX of Tetbury in Co.Glouc woolstapler 10 pounds TO SUCH OF MY SERVANTS shall have been in my service more than 12 months before my death & shall be living with me at the time of my d. 5 pounds each to be paid within 12 months after my decease. I GIVE TO MY WIFE 1 guinea for a ring TO JOHN PAUL ESQ. & SARAH HIS WIFE 1 guinea for a ring TO MR THOMAS WIGHT & ANN HIS WIFE 1 guinea for a ring TO MR ROBERT WIGHT & (unnamed) his wife 1 guinea for a ring TO MRS ELIZABETH COOPER 1 guinea for a ring TO ROBERT & CHARLES LODER Esquires 1 guinea for a ring ALL THE REST & RESIDUE of my personal estate & effects whatsoever not hereinbefore disposed of I give every part thereof unto my said BROTHER SIMON OATRIDGE for his own use & I appoint him my sole Executor SIGNED THOMAS OATRIDGE 14 July in the 27th year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland King defender of the faith. & in the year of Our Lord 1787 Witnesses Robert Wollford Stephen Smith Thomas Cryer Proved at London 10 Feb 1790 by oath of SIMON OATRIDGE BROTHER OF THE DECEASED & sole Executor.Updated on 16 Mar 2006
