Apprenticeship of Ann Oatridge 1819

This Indenture witnesseth that Ann Oatridge of the Parish of Saint John in the Soke in the  County of Southampton Spinster a minor of the Age of thirteen years by an with the consent of  William Pickering and James Kellow Churchwardens and Robert Knight and Robert Smith 

Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint John doth put herself Apprentice to Margaret  the Wife of Joseph Dawkins of the City of Winchester in the said County of Southampton  Dress  Maker to learn her Art amd with her after the manner of an Apprentice to serve from the day of 

the date hereof for and during and unto the full end and Term of two years from thence next  ensuing  amd fully to be complete and ended  during which term the said Apprentice her said  Mistress faithfully shall serve  her secrets keep  her lawful commands every where gladly do  she  shall not do any damage to her said Mistress but to the best of her Power shall prevent the 

same  or forthwith give warning to her said Mistress thereof; she shall not purloin nor waste the  Goods of her said Mistress nor lend them to any without her Direction or Permission; she shall  not contract Matrimony during the said Term; she shall not play at Cards Dice Tables or any 

other unlawful Games whereby her said Mistress may sustain any loss or injury; she shall not in  any manner Trade for herself during the said Term  without her said Mistress's consent; she shall  not haunt Taverns or Play-Houses  nor absent herself from her said Mistress's Service Day or 

Night unlawfully  but in all things as a good and faithful Apprentice  she shall behave herself  towards her said Mistress and all hers during the said Term. And the said Joseph Dawkins for  and in Consideration of the Sum of Twnety one Pounds to him in hand paid by the said  Churchwardens and Overseers out of the Charity Money received by them on Account of the the 

Rent of Shalden Green Farm in the said County of Southampton devised by Henry Smith  Esquire deceased for Apprenticing Children and for other Charitable purposes doth hereby for  himself his Executors and Administrators and for the said Margaret his Wife covenant and Agree 

to and with the said Churchwardens and Overseers that she the said Margaret Dawkins shall and  will be the best means taht she can teach and instruct  or cause to be taught and instructed  her  said Apprentice in the Art and Business of a Dress Maker which she now with; and also that the  said Joseph Dawkins shall and will find and provide for her the said Apprentice good and 

sufficient Meat Drink Lodging and Washing and also making and mending her Clothes during the  said Term. And the said Churchwardens and Overseers do hereby for themselves and their  successors covenant and agree to and with the said Joseph Dawkins his Executors and 

Administrators  that they the said Churchwardens and Overseers shall and will find and provide  for the said Term. In Witness whereof the said Parties to these Oresebts have hereunto set their  Hands and Seals the twenty third day of November one thousand Eight hundred and nineteen.
