Some of the Descendants of John Burgess,Sr.

FIRST GENERATION
1. John BURGESS Sr.[1,2] was born about 1740 probably in Gloucester Co., VA. . He died 28 July 1806 in Henry Co., VA. John Burgess, Sr. may have moved his family to Henry County, VA around 1781, since he was in Henry County and served as a witness to a deed on 3 Sept 1781. In 1793, he bought 28 acres located on Smith River.
    Note: There was another John Burgess in Pittsylvania County, VA. He married Mary [Polly] Mcmillon in 1799 and died on 28 Sep. 1837. To date, I have not found a connection between these two men named John Burgess.]  John Burgess, Sr. was married to Mary DAVIS on 12 Jun 1764 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester and Mathews Co., VA. Mary DAVIS[1,2] was born about 1744 probably in Gloucester Co., VA . She died after 1805 probably in Henry Co., VA.
 Mary Davis Burgess was alive when her husband died, as he provided for her in his will.

John BURGESS Sr. and Mary DAVIS had the following known children:
      2 i. John BURGESS Jr.[2] was born on 9 Jun 1771 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., VA.
      3 ii. Mary Alexander BURGESS[3,2] was born on 20 Aug 1769 in Kingston Parish, 
            Gloucester Co., VA.
    +4 iii. Davis BURGESS.
    +5 iv. Elizabeth BURGESS I.
      6 v. Willoughby BURGESS[3] was born on 10 Apr 1774 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., 
             VA. Since Willoughby Burgess was not mentioned by his father's will, he may have 
             been dead when John Burgess, Sr. died in 1805.

SECOND GENERATION
4. Davis BURGESS[3,4,5,6,2] was born on 27 Jun 1765 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., VA. 
He died on 27 Feb 1828 in Henry Co., VA. He was buried about 27 Feb 1828 in Graveyard on 
Old Marrowbone Road, Henry Co., VA.[6] He was married to Lucy PACE (daughter of Captain 
John PACE and Elizabeth NUNN) on 26 Jan 1794 in Henry Co., VA.[4]
    Lucy PACE was born about 1774 in Henry Co., VA. She died on 4 Nov 1860 in Henry Co., 
VA.[7] The marriage of Davis Burgess to Lucy Pace is also recorded in: Dodd, Virginia A.

    **Note: Davis Burgess is often incorrectly listed in public records as "David." Davis BURGESS
and Lucy PACE had the following known children:

       13 vii. William BURGESS[5] was born in Henry Co., VA.
       14 viii. Hewlett BURGESS5 was born in Henry Co., VA.
       15 ix. Sally BURGESS[5] was born in Henry Co., VA. Referred to as Sally Harrison in her 
                father's will, but her husband is not named.
        16 x. Mary (Polly) BURGESS[5] probably was born in Henry Co., VA . Referred to as Polly
                Potts in her father's will, but her husband is not named.

5. Elizabeth BURGESS I [3,8,2] was born on 28 Jun 1767 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., 
VA. She died probably in Henry Co., VA. John Burgess, Sr. named his daughter, Elizabeth 
Hewlett, [wife of William Hewlett] in his will. He also named Edward D. Hewlett, Polly M. Hewlett, 
and Nancy D. Hewlett as heirs and left each one ten pounds, but did not specify kinship. These 
three Hewletts named are almost certainly his Grandchildren.
     She was married to William HEWLETT on 7 Jan 1796 in Henry Co., VA.[9] William HEWLETT
died before 1805 probably in Henry Co., VA. He was born probably in Henry Co., VA.

THIRD GENERATION
7. Elizabeth BURGESS II[10,5,11] was born about 1795 in Henry Co., VA. She died on 29 Aug 
1868 in Henry Co., VA.  Elizabeth's age was listed as 73 in 1868, at the time of her death.
Information from Death Records of Henry Co.,VA, Vol.I, 1853-1874, page 88. She was married to
Jacob HEFFLEFINGER Sr. (son of John HEFFLEFINGER I and Mary [maiden?] 
HEFFLEFINGER) on 11 Dec 1815 in Henry Co., VA. Jacob HEFFLEFINGER Sr. was born about 
1786 in Pennsylvania. He died on 10 Aug 1868 in Henry Co., VA. Elizabeth BURGESS II and 
Jacob HEFFLEFINGER Sr. had the following children:
     +17 i. Jacob HEFFLEFINGER Jr..
     +18 ii. John M. HEFFLEFINGER.
       19 iii. Susan HEFFLEFINGER was born in 1817 probably in Henry Co., VA.
       20 iv. George II HEFFLEFINGER was born in 1828.
     +21 v. Elizabeth HEFFLEFINGER.
     +22 vi. James F. HEFFLEFINGER.
       23 vii. Emily HEFFLEFINGER was born about 1837 in probably Henry Co., VA.

8. John III BURGESS[12,5] was born about 1800 in probably Henry Co., VA. He was married to Polly WEAVER on 22 Oct 1825 in Henry Co., VA. Polly WEAVER was born probably in Henry Co., VA.

9. Davis H. BURGESS[13,5] was born in Henry Co., VA. He was married to Elizabeth LANIER on 10 Nov 1823 in Henry Co., 
VA. Elizabeth LANIER was born probably in Henry Co., VA.

4. Capt. John Pace. Hand written note from John Pace to John Cox, Clerk of Court, granting 
    permission for a marriage license to be issued for his daughter to marry Davis Burgess. Also 
    on record is the marriage bond made by Davis Burgess and Thomas Pace. Clerk of Court was

    oldest, or one of the oldest grave markers in Henry Co.,VA. Henry County Cemeteries,
