Some Descendants of Charles M. BISHOP

FIRST GENERATION
1. Charles M. BISHOP was born about 1760, probably in Brunswick Co., VA . He died before 1810 probably in Franklin Co., VA . In 1810 Fed. Census of Franklin County, VA, Elizabeth Bishop is listed as head of household, where the senior member was one female, age over 45. [See Tax Lists: "The Personal Property Tax List for the Year 1787 for Franklin Co.,VA." It lists only John Bishop [or Bushop.]
My research is based on the assumption that this John Bishop listed in 1787 in Franklin Co.,VA, may have been a kinsman, but was not Charles M. Bishop's father, and that Charles had not yet moved to Franklin Co. It seems likely that he was still living in Brunswick Co., VA in 1787, but had moved to Franklin Co., VA by 1802.

Note: Further documentation is needed to establish this as a fact. "The Personal Property Tax List of 23 April 1800,"  listed 3 sons of Charles M. Bishop, but does not name them. Books:Franklin County, VA Wills, 1786-1812, lists Charles M. Bishop's name on page 62 in reference to settling an estate on Dec. 6, 1802. In Index to the 1787 Census of VA by Netti Schreiner-Yantis, Charles M. Bishop is the only person of that name listed as living in the Lower District of Lunenburg Co., VA. In VA Tax Payers 1782-87 by Augusta B. Fothergill, Charles M. Bishop was listed as living in Brunswick County, VA.

Elizabeth [maiden name?] BISHOP was born about 1760 probably in Brunswick Co., VA . She
died probably in Franklin Co., VA. Charles M. BISHOP and Elizabeth [maiden?] BISHOP had
these known children:
+2 i. Landon J. BISHOP.
3 ii. Joseph BISHOP.
4 iii. William I BISHOP.

SECOND GENERATION
2. Landon J. BISHOP [1] was born on 8 Dec 1781 in Franklin Co., VA. Landon Bishop was
referred to as Landon J. Bishop by his son-in-law: Henry Manning Harris. Henry M. Harris gave
this information to Henry Co., VA, Clerk of Court, on the occasion of his mother-in-law's death in 1862. At this time, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Haizlip Bishop was very elderly, aged 98, and a widow. She was living with her daughter: Elizabeth Bishop Harris and her son-in-law: Henry M. Harris.  Landon J. Bishop died after 1860 probably in Henry Co., VA. He left his father's household in 1806 at age of 25. He is listed in Personal Property Tax of Franklin County, VA. He is also listed in the 1860 Fed. Census of Henry County, VA, Ridegway District, Household #1109/1135 .
He was married to Mary HAISLIP II (daughter of Henry HAISLIP II and Mary (Polly) [maiden?]
HAISLIP) on 26 Aug 1808 in Franklin Co., VA. Mary HAISLIP II[2] was born on 20 May 1775 in
Fluvanna Co., VA. She died on 27 Oct 1862 in Henry Co., VA. Mary already had a son, Clifton
Haizlip, when she married Landon J. Bishop. There are no known records about Mary before her marriage to Landon J. Bishop, have been found to date.
***Note: Information on Clifton Haizlip and his kin was recorded in a little cipher [mathematics]
book that Clifton studied from as a child. [4] Landon J. BISHOP and Mary HAISLIP II had the
following known children:
+5 i. Elizabeth S. BISHOP.
6 ii. William BISHOP was born on 20 Feb 1821.
7 iii. Charles BISHOP was born on 28 Feb 1823.
8 iv. Mary BISHOP was born on 6 Mar 1825.

THIRD GENERATION
5. Elizabeth S. BISHOP was born on 20 Dec 1809 in Henry or Franklin Co., VA.[3] Elizabeth
Bishop is listed in the 1880 Fed. Census of Henry County, VA, Ridgeway, Household #1109/1135.  In a Deed, 3 Mar 1895, Courthouse, Henry Co.,VA, Elizabeth's Middle initial is given as S. [In the 19th century, there was no custom to make a woman's initial as the first letter of her maiden name.] She died in Henry Co., VA.[4] She was married to Henry Manning HARRIS (son of Peter Manning HARRIS and Cintha LANSFORD) on 8 Oct 1829 in Henry Co., VA. Marriage bond was made by Henry Harris and Clifton G. Haizlip. Clifton was Elizabeth Bishop Harris's half-brother.
Landon J. Bishop wrote and sent a note giving permission for his daughter to marry. Henry
Manning HARRIS was born in 1801 in Henry or Pittsylvania Co., VA.[5]
