Declaration of John G. Middleton,

    I, John G. Middleton, of said State and County being desirous of legitimating four minor children who were not born in lawful wedlock and who are the children of Martha Middleton now my wife, but whose name was Martha Bond at the time of the birth of said children whose names was Martha and ages are respectively as follows - Mary Ann Middleton a female aged about 14 years, Elizabeth Middleton a female aged about 5 years, Margeret Middleton a female aged about 3 years and S M C Middleton a male ages about 2 years, all of whom reside together with their mother in said Sate and County, and being desirous of legitimating them so as to render them and each of them capable of inheriting my estate as if they were my children born in lawful wedlock. I the said John G. Middleton being their father in fact do hereby make this my declaration in writing that I do hereby recognize these as my children and as at law capable of inheriting my estates both real and personal as if born in lawful wedlock and I do declare it to be my wish that they be known and names a herein set forth above.
    In witness whereof I have thereunto set my hand and seal in presence of Wiley M. Byrd and James M. Daugette witnesses hereto on this the 17th day of November 1885. John (his mark) G. Middleton.

First wife: Elizabeth Ann Fore b. abt 1823 SC, d. 25 Sep. 1881, Monroe Co., Ala.
    John & Eliza m. 20 Feb. 1845, Monroe Co., Ala.

Second Wife: Martha Bond, b. abt 1848 Ala., d. aft 1903
    John G. Middleton and Martha Bond were married at John's home on 31 Dec 1883. After his death she qualified for a Confederate Pension from the State of Alabama.

All three are buried in Middleton Cemetery, Monroe Co., Ala., with John buried between Martha & Eliza.

In 1860 U. S. Monroe Co., Ala. census Martha Bonds (age 15) was living with her mother and brother and sister three houses away from John, Jeptha, and William Middleton in Burnt Corn, Ala.

In 13 Aug 1870 U. S. census Martha Bond was living in Dunnard's Bluff next door to John & Eliza Middleton.

In Jun 1880 U. S. census Martha Bond(s) was listed in the same household with John G. & Eliza Fore Middleton: Martha Bonds, w f 32 farm hand born in Ala. with Mary A. w f 6 dau. and E. w f 14/30 d. dau.

Burnt Corn is not far from Old Texas in Monroe County, however, Dunnard's Bluff, (pron. Duh-naard), is on the other side of the County on the River.
