It was written to John Hasty PHILBRICK [1815-1872], his 2nd cousin, once removed. It has much genealogical information tracing the branches to Thomas the Emigrant, plus information about the Wisconsin branch and the change of spelling of the name from PHILBRICK to PHILBROOK. The document below was acquired in August 2012 by Robert W. Philbrook. It appears to be a land sale and mentions several key things: "Joseph Dow" - "John Dow" - "Salisbury" and a partial date of "One Thousand Six Hundred..." (the rest is torn off and lost.) It is signed by Thomas Philbrick Sen. We have only 3 "Thomas Philbricks" living in the late 1600s. Thomas the Emigrant; his son Thomas Philbrick (Jr.) and Thomas Philbrick son of James Philbrick and grandson of Thomas Philbrick (the Emigrant). We have the signature of Thomas Philbrick3 (son of James) and the signature for sure does not match. We assume, because the signature is "Thomas Philbrick Sen" it is referring to Thomas Philbrick2 who would have been the "Senior" after his father's death about 1667. The writing is difficult to read and a portion of the original document is missing, including the part dating when in the 1600s this is. We can see the word "February" at the bottom right but no year or day that we can tell. We can not read what it says under Thomas' signature. Maybe you or others can help transcribe it. Whenever we have a decent transcription, we will publish it here. Below are several different versions of the same document, each modified with PhotoShop.
