marry Samuel Burk in Fayette, Ohio, in 1858, by making his mark. Mary may
have been married before this to Adam James in 1856, in Van Wert County,
Ohio. After Samuel died in 1879, she married Daniel Shafer in 1880. Her
obit says she is survived by two sisters and one brother but gives no
names. I first find her when she is 15 years old in the 1850 census with a
