Sixth Generation1324. James BEEDY189 was born on 22 March 1846 in Franklin County, Maine.191 He died on 29 July 1907 at the age of 61 in Agra, Phillips, Kansas.191 He enlisted in the Army during the Civil War at the age of 17 and served from 8 Jan 1864 to 8 Jul 1865. He was a private in Company K, 31st Regiment of the Wisconsin Infantry and marched with Sherman's Army from Atlanta to the sea. After the War he was in the Grand Review in Washington DC and later became a farmer and cattle rancher in Wisconsin. James BEEDY and Esther Adeline OSGOOD were married on 28 February 1867 in Monroe, Green, Wisconsin.191 About 1876, after their four oldest children were born, they moved to Friend, NE. In the spring of 1885 they moved to a farm 5 miles north of Agra, where they stayed for 3 years, after which they homesteaded a farm 4 miles north of Agra, which is still (in 1998) owned by Jennie Beedy WITHAM's youngest son and his wife (Gerald and Dorothy WITHAM). When Esther was a young woman she taught school in what was then known as "Subscription School", which was held for 2 months in the Spring and 2 months in the Fall. Later, when she had advanced in years, she became blind, but remained a very gentle woman who was fond of children. She would call the children to her and always have a piece of peppermint candy for each of them. Esther also loved to travel and did so with her daughter Iva before becoming blind. She was a thoughtful gift giver to all she knew. Christmas Family Dinner was always held at her home with ALL the children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren present. Esther Adeline OSGOOD191, daughter of Lewis Purdy OSGOOD and Deliah LOOMIS, was born on 5 March 1846 in Stephenson County, Illinois.191 She died on 27 February 1937 at the age of 90 in Agra, Phillips, Kansas.191 James BEEDY-10449 and Esther Adeline OSGOOD-12818 had the following children:
