Notes:
1)  First name issue:  We have some differing info on the spelling of Louis' first name.  Louis and Lewis seem to have been used interchangeably on different documents.  Louis' mother's maiden name was spelled Lewis so at first I retained that spelling because I felt that was the intention of his parents (and still do).  But with the receipt of his pension file I see he's signed two of the documents as Louis so I've changed everything to reflect how he spelled his own name.  Just be aware it can be found spelled the other way also.

2)  Middle name issue:  We have one story with the middle name for Louis being Lyman, but another story that has his middle name as being Theodore.  I have found no source documentation that mentions Louis as even having a middle name so do not use one here.  There's also a question as to whether Louis' son's middle name was Thomas or Theodore.  He is twice referred to as Theodore in his father's pension file so I've used that as his middle name here.

3)  First marriage issue:  We know that he married Elizabeth, supposedly a widow (there appears to be some question to the date of death of her first husband), in Watertown, NY.  One story goes that after Elizabeth's death, Louis left his son to be raised by Elizabeth's daughter from her first marriage.  Another story goes that he left Elizabeth before her death.  There is a question on one of the pages in his pension file that reads, "Are you now living with your wife, or has there been a separation?"  Louis has answered the question simply "yes."  Well, you can see that with the wording of the question we can't really tell what he's answering yes to.  Interestingly enough, this page is signed March 24, 1915 and addressed to Louis in Cleveland, OH.  Elizabeth supposedly died on June 20, 1915 in Los Angeles, CA.

I have been contacted by descendants of this line who are also looking for further info.  If you would like to connect with them, please e-mail me and I'll be happy to pass on an address where they can be reached.
