Phebe, step or foster daughter of John Norwood

Phebe D. Norwood was b. February 14, 1846 in New York, and d. September 13, 1903 in Clearwater, Antelope Co, NE. On April 15, 1868 in Chickasaw, Chickasaw Co, IA, she m. John L. McKim, who was b. August 20, 1839 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co, IN and d. April 18, 1918 in Clearwater, Antelope Co, NE. They had the following children:

Lisbon "Posie" Clarence McKim was b. February 12, 1869 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. November 12, 1934 in Opportunity, Holt Co, NE. On January 15,1896 in Neligh, Antelope Co, NE, he m. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jesamine Anderson, who was b. October 12, 1878 in Nebraska, and d. March 10, 1951 in Clearwater, Antelope Co, NE. They had nine known children.

Florence McKim was b. abt 1870 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. abt 1870 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI.

Myrtle E(llen?) McKim was b. June 15, 1870 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. February 28, 1907 in Antelope Co, NE. On December 04,1889 in Antelope Co, NE, she m. Mayhew M. Hemenway, who was b. January 25, 1856 in Wayne Center, Dupage Co, IL, and d. July 26, 1940, possibly in Antelope Co, NE. They had three known children.

William J. McKim was b. October 05, 1871 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. April 18, 1922, in (Clearwater, Antelope Co, NE) Opportunity, Holt Co, NE. He never married and had no known children.

James E(dgar?) McKim was b. June 03, 1874 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. May 03, 1929 in (Winner, Tripp Co, SD) Oakdale, Antelope Co, NE. On July 15, 1899 in Antelope Co, NE, he m. Ellinor Wiltse, who was b. abt. September 24, 1879 in Summit City, PA, and d. February 01, 1919 in (Norfolk, Madison Co, NE) Oakdale, Antelope Co, NE. They had one known child.

Levi A. McKim was b. August 12, 1875 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. aft 1922, possibly in Canada. He is listed in the 1885 state census for Nebraska but I have found no info on him after that. Family lore has it that he had no known children.

John McKim was b. May 19, 1877 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI, and d. abt 1877 in River Falls, Pierce Co, WI.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Anna McKim was b. September 24, 1879 in Round Grove, White Co, IN, and d. August 01, 1953 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, CA. On February 21, 1900 in Clearwater, Antelope Co, NE, she m. (1) Otto A. Pattee, who was b. abt. January 1872 in Iowa, and d. bet. 1920 - 1925, possibly in Antelope Co, NE. They had two known children. On October 30, 1925 in Neligh, Antelope Co, NE, she m. (2) Hayden W. Mitchell, who was b. in New York. They had no children.

Alexander R. McKim was b. February 05, 1882 in Frenchtown, Antelope Co, NE, and d. April 18, 1904, possibly in Antelope Co, NE. On May 06, 1902 in Neligh, Antelope Co, NE, he m. Carrie McNutt, who was b. abt. 1885 in Nebraska, and d. aft. 1920, possibly in Wayne, Wayne Co, NE. They had two known children.

Jasper "Jack" H. McKim was b. August 11, 1883 in Frenchtown, Antelope Co, NE, and d. abt. 1937, possibly in Opportunity, Holt Co, NE. He never married and had no known children.

Grace P. McKim was b. February 14, 1887 in Frenchtown, Antelope Co, NE, and d. February 08, 1891 in Frenchtown, Antelope Co, NE.

Stella L. McKim was b. March 11, 1890 in Frenchtown, Antelope Co, NE, and d. March 22, 1890 in Frenchtown, Antelope Co, NE.

Notes:

According to Phebe's own words on an affidavit in John Norwood's pension file, she was not John's natural child. However, he did raise her and she used Norwood as her maiden surname. I have located Phebe on the 1850 census for Hancock, Delaware Co, NY where she is listed as a Lewis. Unfortunately, this census does not indicate relationships with the head of household, who is this case is Saphrona's mother Sally. Phebe may be Saphrona's youngest sister, or a child of one of Saphrona's brothers, but then why was she raised by Saphrona? I'm still leaning towards the theory that Phebe is Saphrona's natural child by an as yet unknown relationship.
