SEWING CIRCLE
= 20 Dec .... - The Elsie Scott Sewing Circle entertained at the home of it's President, Mrs. Harold Holmes, Apohaqui. Assisting at serving were the hostess, Mrs. Ralph Long and Mrs.
Elmer Pollock.  Friends of Mrs. Kenneth Webb will be sorry to learn she is a patient in the Kings Co Memorial Hospital after undergoing a major operation. (#1,TJ,?)

SHORT - James Alfred
= James Alfred Short died at his home, New Jerusalem, s/o the late John & Sarah Short last of a family of 11 children.  Surviving his wife Alice (Beckett) 4 sons; Rev. Raymond M. of Hampton, NB; Percy C., Maine; Wendell & Murray at home.  2 daus: Mrs. C. W. (Blenda) Johnson and Mrs. Roy (Helen) Johnston, both of Arlington, MA and 8 grandchildren.  Member of the Lake Baptist Church where the funeral was held Friday, interment in adjoining cemetery. = Mrs. R. Arnold Simpson.  Funeral from Welsford United Church on Saturday, by Rev. Douglas H. Ramsey assisted by Rev. D. A. Sharpe, former minister of the church.  Mrs. Sharpe directed the choir.  Interment in adjoining cemetery.  She was the d/o the late Wm. H. & Elizabeth Jones, Welsford, and m. in 1915 to Mr. Simpson, who d. in Sept. of last year.  She is survived by one son, William, Oak Pt and two brothers, R.F., Melrose, MA and H.W., Saint John. SMITH - Eva Elizabeth &  MURPHY - Ralph Edward
= At Gowan Brae, West Bathurst, Eva Elizabeth d/o Mr. & Mrs Reginald Smith became the bride of Ralph Edward Murphy s/o Josiah Murphy and the late Mrs. Murphy of Welsford.  Performed by Rev. J. A. SMITH - James L.
= James L. Smith, of Fair Vale, Kings Co, NB d. Sat morning at the General Hospital, Saint John.  Born at New Jerusalem, Queens Co, he was the s/o the late John H. & Eleanor A. (Vallis) Smith, and lived in Fair Vale for the past 30 years.  Member of  St David's United Church at Rothesay.  Member of the Pioneers Club of the NB Telephone Co, Ltd.  He retired in 1946, after 30 years with the NB Telephone.  Surviving are his wife Authura R. (Fulton) of Chipman; 2 bros.: Samuel J. of Houlton, ME & Benjamin P., of Fair Vale and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral from Brenan's to Fernhill Cemetery. (#1,TJ,?)

SPRAGUE - Daniel E.
= Daniel E. Sprague, d. aged 83 yrs at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Herbert F. Lingley, 173 Main St, Saint John, s/o the late Joseph & Susan Sprague, b. at Belleisle, Kings Co, but lived the greatest part of his life in Saint John.  Member of Victoria St Baptist Church.  Survived by one dau (above); 2 sisters: Mrs. Gilbert Ducey (Saint John); Mrs. Scott Akerley (Melrose, MA); 4 grandsons: 2 granddaughters; several nieces & nephews.  Funeral from Brenan's Funeral Home, Sat.  Burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery. STEVENS - Florence M. Poley
= At Calgary on Jan 14, 1977, Mrs. Florence M. Poley Stevens, formerly of Saint John and Fredericton, widow of Ray L. Stevens. Survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Husband (Norah), of Medicine Hat, Alberta; Mrs. Andrew Heap (Joy), Montreal; three brothers, Harry Poley, Portland, Me.; Walter & Arthur of Saint John; four grandchildren, Kristen and Michael Husband, Jennifer & Samantha Heap; several nieces and nephews.
    Cremation took place in Calgary. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's United Church on Wed. at 3 p.m.  Friends may visit with the family at the church at 1:30 on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Canadian Heart Foundation would be appreciated by the family.  Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Saint John.  Arrangements by Castle Funeral Homes. = Fred C. Stults died in the General Hospital, Saint John. He was of Hampstead, Queens Co, and was in his 78th yr.  Member of the Central Baptist Church, and a Councillor and County
Warden.  Surviving are 1 son, Charles E. of Rothesay; 2 daughters: Mrs. Fred Smith of Hampstead and Mrs. Donald Wilson of Noranda, Quebec; and 5 grandsons. Funeral Friday at 2:30 pm from Central Hampstead Baptist Church.  Interment in the family plot, Hampstead. (#1,TJ,?)

STULTS - Harold M.
= Harold M. Stults d. suddenly in Saint John.  He was an employee of the firm of Barnes & Co Ltd. for 25 yrs.  Born in Hampstead, NB s/o Frederick & Alberta A. Stults.  He resided in Hampstead.  Surviving are his wife, Etta L. (Willis); 2 sons, F.O. Douglas S. on active service overseas.  Gordon Blair, a student at Rothesay Ave; 2 sisters, Mrs. Fred Smith, Bridgeport, CT; and Mrs. Donald Wilson, Hampstead.  Funeral Friday from Central Hampstead Baptist Church.  Interment at Hampstead. SWEET - Mrs. E. A. Sweet
= Mrs. E. A. Sweet, d. 7 Sept. at the home of her grand-daughter, Mrs. R. Tomlinson, 123 Victoria St, Truro, NS; Elizabeth Anne, widow of the late Eben Sweet d. after a 5 months illness aged 74 yrs, d/o the late John & Margaret Kine, of Halifax, NS. She came to Truro some 57 yrs ago. Survived by 2 daus: Margaret, Mrs. Roderick MacKenzie and Kathleen Smith; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Funeral from her daughter's home 331 Queen Street. Services by Rev. McKean assisted by Major Hicks. Interment at Watson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rodney Smith, Percy Clark, Foster MacKenzie and Earl MacKenzie. (#1,TJ,?)
