Because of his interest in young people, the Dr. W. M. Jenkins Scholarship Fund - a fund of approximately $1,600 - was established in the hope that it would grow to assist annually a young person from Kings, Queens of Sunbury County, in furthering his or her education.
Dr. Jenkins was widely respected in the St John River area for his kindness and his practice of assisting the sick at any hour of the day or night.  He reached his patients in all kinds of weather on foot and even on snowshoe.
In addition to covering three counties with his medical and surgical skills, Dr. Jenkins served as MLA for Queens County from 1935 until 1939.
He had been president of the Queens County Board of Trade, a school trustee, president of the Shorthorn Breeders' Association of the St John River Valley and headed many other community projects.
