In the name of God Amen I Joseph Bason being of sound mind & memory but calling to mind the uncertainty of human life do make publish & declare my last will & testament in manner & form as forthwith

In the first place my will & desire is that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner and that all necessary funeral expenses & just debts be first paid

2ndly My will & desire is that my beloved wife Barbara have & possess during her natural life the whole of my estate real & personal including a life estate in all my lands except such property as is hereinafter disposed of specially to my children

3rdly to my son Henry Bason I have heretofore advanced property including a negro boy named Sam and a tract of land called the Faucette (?) tract amounting in all to one thousand fifty four dollars & fifty cents It is my will that he retain this property and account for the same in the division of my property at the death of my wife

4thly To my son Jeremiah Bason I have advanced property including the land he lives on and a negro man named Frank & some other articles of personal property in all to the amount of eighteen hundred & fifty seven dollars which I wish him to retain & account for in the division of my estate at the death of my wife

5thly  to my son William Bason I will & bequeath all my interest in the Highfalls (?) cotton factory subject to the payment of any debts I may owe said company and also one negro man named Harry

6th To my son Joseph Bason I will & bequeath a negro boy named Isaac still I possess my blacksmith tools one sideboard and secratary one bed & furniture and one hundred dollars a year since he came of age & so long as he live with me and at the death of my wife the land & plantation whereon I reside exclusive of the Anderson tract

7th to my daughter Mariah Bason I will & bequeath a negro woman named Phoebe & her increase born or to be born one table one bureau one bed & furniture which I have already assigned to her

8th to my daughter Catharine I will & bequeath the negro woman called Caroline & her increase one table, bed & furniture & beaureau

9th I will & bequeath to my executors in trust for my daughter Cornelia one negro girl named Amy & her increase one table bed & furniture & one beaureau It is my will & desire that my executors take special care of my daughter Cornelia and I enjoin it upon my son Henry to exercise a superintending care over her and it is further my will & desire that her share of my estate be used for her support during her life and at her death as much thereof as remains to be equaly divided among my executors

10th I give & bequeath & desire to my son Jeremiah Bason his heirs and assigns a mare & colt cow & calf one wheel or such household & kitchen furniture sheep cattle hogs & ale the personal property bought me as belonging to Crastin (?) Whitsett (?) & placed by me in the possession of my daughter Margaret also a negro girl named mary & her increase born or to be born also the tract of land bought to me from Paul (? or said ?) Whitsett & whereon he resides to have & to hold said property real & personal to the only proper use & behalf of my said daughter Margaret and at her death to be equally divided among her children then living

11th My son George I fully advanced in his life time I therefore desire that his children if any of them be living shall have no share of my estate

12th my will & desire is that at the death of my wife the tract of land called the Anderson tract be equally divided between my daughters Mariah & Catherine and that all the residue of my estate be divided among Henry Jeremiah Joseph Mariah Catherine & Cornelia Bason Henry & Jeremiah first accounting for the advancements above spoken of & the property given in this will to Joseph Mariah, Catherine & Cornelia to be valued by three disinterested & competent valuers to be chosen by my executors. The value to be ascertained at the time each one  gets possession and this valuation to be accounted for in the division of the residue in the same manner as the advancements to Henry & Jeremiah

Lastly I nominate and appoint my three sons Jeremiah Henry & Joseph executors of this my last will & testament

The execution of this will was duly proven in open court by the oaths of Alex Mebane & Abel Griffin subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded
