1849 Will of James Dickey of Orange County

Will of James Dickey – Orange Co. 1849
In the name of God Amen, I James Dickey being of sound mind and
memory do make publish and declare my last will and testament in the
following manner –
In the first place my will and desire is that all my just debts be paid and
discharged by my Executors hereinafter named –
2nd That my son George Dickey have and possess in fee simple the land and
plantation where on he now resides containing about two hundred and fifty four
acres ~ to my son George I also will and bequeath a negro man named Simon
heretofore placed in his possession –
3nd I bequeath and desire my homestead place to my two sons James and Jacob
Dickey the said land and plantation to be subject to and chargeable with the
payment of eight hundred dollars to my son Doctor Dickey payable one half by
Jacob and the other half by James Dickey –
4th I will and bequeath to my son James Dickey negro man named Daniel heretofore
??? in his possession –
5th To my son Jacob I will and bequeath negro man named Hubon (Huboro?) –
6th To my daughter Celia Bason I will and bequeath negro girl named Susan –
7 To Altitia? Pettigrew I will and bequeath a horse of the value of Forty
Dollars one bed and necessary furniture and a negro girl named Mary –
8th I give and bequeath to Abi McCadams wife of Joseph McCadams the sum of five
dollars –
9th I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Tate the wife of Joseph Tate the sum of One
Dollar –
10th I give and bequeath to Isaac N Dickey the sum of One Dollar –
All the remainder and residue of my estate of whatever description I desire will
and bequeath to George, James, Doctor and Jacob my sons and to my Daughter Celia
Bason share and share alike
I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Doctor Dickey and Jacob Dickey
Executors of this my last will and testament

Whereas I James Dickey made my last will and Testament in writing bearing date
the 4th day of July AD 1845 and have thereby made sundry devises & bequests. Now
I do by this my writing which I hereby declare to be a Codicil to this my last
will to be taken and construed as a part thereof Will and direct that my two
Negroes Edy and Charles have the privilege of choosing their own home
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand anew this the 24th day Nove AD 1849
