   DURHAM — Mrs. Pauline Gertrude Zachary Allen, 90, of 5935 Mt. Sinai Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Magnolia Gardens Nursing Home in Durham after several years of failing health.
   A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Everett Allen, and the daughter of the late George Ressie and Myrtle McBane Zachary. She was retired from B&D Hosiery and was a member of Wicker Street Baptist Church.
   Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Joyce Z. Dawson of Chapel Hill and Mrs. Miriam Z. Dean of Snow Camp; and a brother, Mr. Quentin R. Zachary of Burlington.
   The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Tommy Love, pastor of Wicker Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Concord United Methodist Church cemetery.
   The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

   ELON COLLEGE - Earl Hairn Allred Sr., 72, of Route 2, Milesville Road, died Oct. 9, 1992, at Duke University Medical Center.
   Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Concord United Church of Christ, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   A native of Caswell County, he was a member of Disabled American Veterans, a World War II Army veteran and a farmer.
   Surviving are wife, Mrs. Marie Truitt Allred; daughter, Mrs. Judy Branin of Birmingham, Ala.; son, Earl H. Allred Jr. of Burlington; brothers, David Daniel Allred of Austin, Texas, Tommy Lee Allred of Elon College; three grandchildren.

James F. Coble
   GRAHAM -- Mr. James Frankie Coble, 54, of 3028 Woodside Avenue, Graham, NC, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a one week critical illness, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
   He was a native of Alamance County and was employed by Carolina Farm Credit as a Loan Officer. He was a veteran of the United State Marines and was a graduate of NC State University. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
   Survivors: son, Mr. Kenneth Michael "Kenny" Coble of the home; mother, Mrs. Georgia Marsh Coble of Snow Camp; sisters, Mrs. Mary Ellen (William) Faison of Raleigh, Mrs. Catherine (Ken) Cooke of California, Mrs. Betty (Ed) Brockwell of Lewisville, NC; mother-in-law, Ms. Eloise Whitaker Pickard of Snow Camp; sister-in-law, Ms. Annie Frank "Frankie Ann" Pickard of Raleigh; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mr. Al and Mrs. Sharon Pickard of Snow Camp; nieces Mrs. Mary Catherine (Jim) Garrett of Raleigh, Miss Anne Faison of Raleigh; nephews, Mr. Jay (Kristy) Pickard of Snow Camp, Mr. William (Holly) Faison of Raleigh; great nephew, Mr. Preston Shayne Pickard of Snow Camp; great-niece and nephew, Michael and Lindsey Faison; several other nieces; nephews and great-nephews.
   Preceded in death by, wife, The late Mrs. Mary Pickard Coble, who preceded him on Tuesday, July 29, 2003.
   Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Concord United Methodist Church. Burial church cemetery, with Reverend David Gira, Reverend Bob Elderidge, and Reverend Ray Lambe.
   Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 2003, from 5-7 p.m. at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham.

Mr. Robert Thomas Coble
   GRAHAM — Mr. Robert Thomas Coble, 87, of 4357 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, died at 3:01 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital Durham after six years of failing health.
   A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Edna Wall Coble, who survives, and the son of the late Thomas Coble and Annie Roney Coble. He was a retired self-employed logger and was a member of Concord United Methodist Church , a past chairman of the Trustees and a member of the Administrative Board. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
   Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Tommy Coble and wife, Vickie, and Mr. Tim Coble and wife, Jean, all of Graham; a brother, Mr. June Coble of Graham; four grandchildren, Cindy C. Sanes, Teri C. Barrow, Brian Coble, and Whitney Coble; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Bradshaw, Austin Barrow, Wesley Barrow, Tyler Barrow, Trey Barrow, Josh Buchanan, and Alyson Sanes.
   The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Gira. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
   The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 3 to 5 p.m. today, and at other times at the residence of a son and his wife, Tommy and Vickie Coble, 4357-A East Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Graham.

   GRAHAM — Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Glosson Ferguson, 73, of 7438 McBane Mill Road, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2000 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after nine months of failing health, two weeks critical.
   A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Troy L. Ferguson and the daughter of Mr. Carl L. Glosson and Mrs. Maude Mann Glosson, both deceased. She was retired from Kayser-Roth Hosiery and a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Cates and Mrs. Jean F. Salyers, both of Graham; a son, Mr. Harry Ferguson of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Michael of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
   The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeanie Neal, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

   SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Beulah Coble Guthrie, 89, of 8143 N.C. 87 South, Snow Camp, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at 10:05 a.m., following five years of failing health nd two weeks critical illness.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Concord United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Jeanne Neal. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
   A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Silas R. Guthrie, and daughter of the late Oron F. and Dora Ingold Coble. She graduated from Elon College in 1932, and taught in the Alamance County Schools until her retirement. She was an active and faithful member of the Concord United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, headed the flower guild of the church for 50 years, was a member of the U.M.W. and was a lay delegate of the N.C. Annual Methodist Conference. She participated in he Alamance County Fairs and the N.C. State Fair in Raleigh.
   Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Jolene Guthrie of Burlington, Ms. Fannie G. Zachary of the home; sister, Mrs. Pauline C. Thornton of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Fred Coble and Mr. Boyd Coble, both of Burlington. Her sister, Mrs. Fannie C. Overman preceded her in death.
   The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McClure Funeral Home in Graham, and other times at the residence.

John Kenneth Guthrie
   CARRBORO — John Kenneth Guthrie, died peacefully Dec. 14, 2004, at the Hospice Home in Burlington, N.C. He fought a long courageous battle with cancer. Kenneth as born Aug. 14, 1942, to John and Vedrin Guthrie. He is survived by a sister, Carol Phillips of Roanoke Rapids; a brother, Lee Guthrie of Durham; several nieces and nephews; a cousin, Fannie Zachary, and a special cousin, Jolene Guthrie, a dear friend throughout his life.
   Kenneth had so many special friends, it would be difficult to mention them. The family expresses deepest appreciation to all of them, especially Diane Witham and Ann Wright, both of Durham.
   Kenneth was a native of Alamance County and had retired from IBM in Research Triangle Park. He was also a ham radio operator, which he enjoyed very much and made many friends.
   The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, in the Chapel at Walkers Funeral Home in Chapel Hill by the Rev. Jim Greenlee. Burial will follow in Concord United Methodist Church cemetery, 4462 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road, Graham, N.C.

   SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Mattie Lou Ellington Guthrie, 74, of 8351 S. N.C. 87 died at 3:45 p.m. Monday, August 8, 1994, at her residence.
   Born in Chatham County, she was the daughter of the late J. R. Ellington and the late Martra Cheek Ellington. She was retired from Dixie Yarn, a member of Concord United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.

   A native of Alamance County, he was a retired dairy farmer and retired from the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation. He was a charter member of the Eli Whitney Ruritan club and helped organize the Eli Whitney Fire Department and the Eli Whitney Recreation Center.
   Surviving are wife, Mrs. LeNota Ivey Hargrove; son, Marion D. Hargrove of Bedford, Va.; daughter, Mrs. Shirley Pierce of Burlington; sister Mrs. Olene Andrews of Graham; four grandchildren.

   GRAHAM — Mr. Robert Grey “Bob” Hargrove, 63, of 222 Webster Road, died at 3:22 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three months of failing health, two weeks critical.
   A native of Durham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Karen Massey Hargrove, who survives, and the son of Mr. Herman Grey Hargrove and Mrs. Blanche Johnson Hargrove, both deceased. He was a retired salesman at County Ford and was a member of the 300-500 Ford Master Club. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
   Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Dale Roberson Hargrove of Burlington; two stepdaughters, Miss Kimberly Smith and Miss Kristy Smith, both of Burlington; and a brother, Mr. Tom Hargrove of Falls Church, Va. He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Robert Grey "Bobby" Hargrove Jr.

She as a retired registered nurse and was a graduate of Rowan County Hospital Nursing School in Salisbury. She was a former school teacher and member of the Alamance County Senior Democrats. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
   Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Josie Ivey of Burlington, Mrs. Ellen Williams of Snow Camp, Mrs. Gwen McClure of Greensboro and Mrs. Ruth Fox of Chapel Hill; two brothers, Mr. Joe W. Guthrie of Snow Camp and Mr. Hugh Woody Guthrie of Graham.
   She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Beaulah Cobb; and four brothers, Mr. T. Harry Guthrie, Mr. J. Colon Guthrie, Mr. W. Glenn Guthrie and Mr. H. Grey Guthrie.

   GRAHAM — Mrs. Hazeline Clayton Lewis, 61, of 4209 E. Greensboro-Chapel Road, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, at her home after two years of failing health, three weeks critical.
   A native of Person County, she was the wife of Mr. William G. Lewis, who survives. She was associate director of operations at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
   Survivors other than her husband of the home includes two daughters, Mrs. Leigh Crouse of Graham and Mrs. Lisa Perry of Snow Camp; a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Fuquay of Roxboro; three brothers, Mr. Cecil Clayton and Mr. Leon Clayton, both of Roxboro, and Mr. Everette Clayton of South Boston, Va.; and three grandchildren, Miss Rosa Perry and    Mr. Joe Perry, both of Snow Camp, and Miss Kenna Crouse of Graham.
   She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Clayton and Ida Turner Clayton.
   A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Concord United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jeanie Neal, pastor.

Mrs. Edith Mann Marlette
   GRAHAM — Mrs. Edith Mann Marlette, 83, of Graham, left her earthly home and entered her heavenly home early Monday morning, April 19, 2004, after a brief illness resulting from a stroke.
   She is now reunited with her husband, William Frank Marlette; brother, Adrian Reid Mann; and parents, Otho Reid Mann and Mary Whitaker Mann; and many other friends and family members who predeceased her.
   Edith was born in Chatham County, where she grew up a member of Browns Chapel United Methodist Church . She later married Frank Marlette of Alamance County and moved her membership to Concord United Methodist Church , where she served the Lord faithfully all her years. She willingly gave of her musical talents to Concord United Methodist Church, where in past years she served as choir director, choir member, and organist for over 41 years. Prior to retiring in 1983 she worked in the Graduate Admissions Office at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C.
   Surviving are her sons, and daughters-in-law, William Reid Marlette and wife, Donna, of Graham, David Franklin Marlette and wife, Phyllis, of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Sherri Marlette Spraggins and husband, Derek, Shaun William Marlette and wife, Heather, and Kristy Michelle Marlette, all of Graham, and Jonathan David Marlette of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Allene D. Mann of Pittsboro; nephew, Steven L. Mann and wife, Dinah, of Raleigh; and a host of cousins.
   A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Concord United Methodist Church . The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at McClure Funeral Home in Graham, and at other times at Edith’s home, N.C. 87 South, Graham, N.C. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David Gira, pastor.

   BURLINGTON — Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Lindley Mc-Bane, 96, of 1987 Hilton Road, Burlington, died at Alamance Health Care Center on Monday, October 10, 2005 at 11:35 a.m. following several years of declining health.
   A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of the late Diffie R. McBane, and the daughter of Cicero N. Lindley and Margaret Johnson Lindley, both deceased. She retired from Brown Wooten Hosiery Company. She was the oldest member at Concord United Methodist Church , where she was a lifetime member of the Missionary Society and choir member. She was a member of the Eli Whitney Homemakers.
   Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jeannette Cole and husband, Thomas F. Cole, of Graham; one granddaughter, Mrs. Charise Sumner and husband, Mike, of Graham; and one brother-in-law, Mr. Willard McBane of Snow Camp.
   She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Lindley Russell and Irene Lindley Fuqua; and three brothers, Flavius Lindley, Marcellus Lindley, and Hobert Lindley.
   The funeral will be conducted at Concord United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. David King, and the Rev. Jeanne Neal. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

   SNOW CAMP — Mrs. Edith Guthrie Mogle, 85, of 8262 N.C. 87 South, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center of injuries received in an automobile accident.
   A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. E. Revere Mogle, who survives, and the daughter of the late Mr. Loy E. Guthrie and Mrs. Daisy Thompson Guthrie, both deceased. She was a retired school teacher. A graduate of High Point College, she taught at Eli Whitney High School, Silk Hope High School and Eastern Alamance High School, where she was Teacher of the Year in 1973. She won awards from the N.C. Press Club, was a charter member of the Sword of Peace outdoor drama cast, helped with research on he book “Back to Bethel,” was a former newspaper columnist for the City-County Magazine and was a life member of the N.C. Bee Keepers Association. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher.
   Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Ms. Edie Mogle of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Fuquay of Burlington; two stepgrandchildren; and one great-stepgrandchild.
   She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Everett G. Mogle; and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Pugh and Mrs. Audrey Moon.    The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Concord United Methodist Church by Pastor Jeanne Neal. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

   A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of the late Clarence S. Pickard and the daughter of Alvis Clyde Whitaker and Lena Durham Whitaker, both deceased. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

   A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Jean Bowden Ward Roberson who survives and the son of Roy Newman Roberson and Edna Johnson Roberson, both deceased. He was a retired manager of the U.N.C. Chapel Hill Central Warehouse and Stores. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. He was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Eli Whitney Fire Department and retired from the Chapel Hill Fire Department. He was a past member of the Tarheel Sertoma Club.
   Mr. Roberson is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter, Mrs. Kelly Roberson Medlin and husband, John of Graham, a son, Mr. Brett Howard Ward of Graham, and two granddaughters, Bretlyn Ward and Paige Ward.
   He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. T. Max Roberson.
   The funeral will be held at Concord United Methodist Church, 11 a.m., Thursday, March 25, 2004, and conducted by the Rev. David Gira and the Rev. Bob Eldredge. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

   He was the husband of Lula Shoe Rogers, who survives, and the son of the late Bunn and Annie Rogers. He was a general contractor for 28 years and a past member f the Alamance Home Builders Association. He was also a woodworker in his spare time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and pappy, and a lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church .
    Survivors other than his wife of the home include daughters, Karen (Jim) Cheek and Robin (Gerry) Dean, all of Eli Whitney; son, Steve (Kay) Rogers of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Shannon Cheek Williams, Emily (Jonathan) Harrell, Michael (Barbara) Cheek, Nicholas Rogers, Zachary Dean, and Jessica Dean; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Johnson and Shirley Albright, both of Burlington; and a brother, Carson Rogers of Eli Whitney.

   ELON Mrs. Norma Troxler Simmons, 64, of 5730 Cherry Grove Road, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

   A native of Guilford County, she was wife of J. Douglas Simmons and daughter of the late Frank Lewis Troxler and Rena Walker Troxler Underwood. She was a member of Concord Christian Church, the Women's Fellowship, was secretary-treasurer of the Adult Sunday School Class and was a member of the Country Weavers. Mrs. Simmons had been employed by Farm Bureau, Caswell Insurance Services and Caswell County Chamber of Commerce.
   Mrs. Simmons is survived by her husband, J. Douglas Simmons of the home; daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth "Beth" Kirby and husband Tony and Ms. Janice S. Franklin, all of Elon; four grandchildren, Claire Kirby, Ben Kirby, Gunner Franklin and Carrie Kirby; brothers, Donald Troxler and wife Jean and George "Tommy" Underwood and wife Faye, all of Elon; sisters, Mrs. Betty Blanchard and husband "Bill" of Burlington, Shelby Renshaw and husband Jimmy of High Point and Mary Simmons and husband Dennis of Elon; sister -in-law Shirley Underwood of Burlington.    Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Gail Earle of St. Mary, Pa., and Ms. Nancy Whitney of Graham; two sons, Mr. Richard Whitney of California and Mr. Gregory Whitney of Middletown, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Benedict of Montgomery, N.Y., and Mrs. Gladys Rhodes of Cornwall, N.Y. a brother, Mr. Peter Hall of Walden, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
   A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeannie Ross Neal, pastor.
   There will be no visitation and the family will be at the home.

   GRAHAM - G. Newlon Woody, 90, of 4274 E. Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road died Wednesday at Meadowbrook Manor of Siler City.
   Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Concord United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   A native of Alamance County, he was a retired farmer.
   Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Edith Lloyd, Mrs. LaVerne Madden, both of Graham, Mrs. Virginia Smith of Siler City; sisters, Mrs. Mabel Francisco of Siler City, Mrs. Ida Guinn of Glen Raven; five grandchildren.
   The family will be at McClure Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. today, other times at the residence.

Walter Woody
   SNOW CAMP - Walter Wendell Woody, 70, of 3408 E.
   Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road died there Jan. 5, 1993.
   Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Concord United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   A native of Alamance County, he was a retired dairy farmer and a fireman and member of the board of directors for the Eli Whitney Fire Department. He was Chairman of the Alamance County ACS Committee and the Official Board at his church.
   Surviving are wife, Mrs. Sarah Marie Stuart Wood; daughter, Mrs. Linda Ambrosio of Simonton, Texas; sons, Thomas Clinton Woody of Greensboro, Wendell Woody of Graham; brother, Harlan Woody of Swepsonville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
   The family will be at McClure Funeral Home 7-9 tonight.
