The following steps are required for individuals interested in submitting their Mackinlay (or spelling variants) family tree for inclusion in this web page:
Create a GEDCOM file from your genealogical program. For Family Tree Maker:
Open your Family Tree file.
Select "File" then "Copy/Export Family File" from the main menu.
Select "Desktop" from the "Save in" dropdown menu. Select "GEDCOM" from the "Save as type" dropdown menu. Enter a descriptive file name then click "Save".
You will be presented with a second pop-up. Select "FTM" from the "Destination" dropdown menu. Select "Version 5.5" from the "GEDCOM" dropdown menu. Select "ANSI" from the "Character Set" dropdown menu. Leave other options to default and select OK.
It is recommended that you make a ZIP archive of the resultant GEDCOM file to assure proper transmission through email. If using WinZip this can easily be accomplished by finding the icon for the GEDCOM file created above on your Desktop, right click on the icon, select the WinZip option and select "Zip and E-Mail filename.zip" where filename is the name you selected above. Your email program should be launched if not already open once the WinZip operation is complete.
Send this message with the attached ZIP'd GEDCOM file to [email protected]. Please include the following information in the body of the email:
First member of tree along with City, State/Province and Country of origin.
Birth year of first member
Your name, City, State/Province and Country
Complete the release form and mail per instruction on the form.
