Perry Family

ROBERT PERRY AND FRANCIS RICHARDS

Robert PERRY is believed to have been born between 1770-1780. Francis RICHARDS was born in 1784, the daughter of John RICHARDS and Francis PERRY of Franklin County, N.C.

In 1830 they were living in the Buffalo District of Wake Co, North Carolina, where Robert was listed as being 50 and 60 years old which seems unlikely that he would be a Revolutionary War soldier as he has been reported. It is possible that he has been confused with the Robert Perry of Raleigh who was born ten or so years earlier.

Robert PERRY and Francis RICHARDS were married 3 May 1802 in Franklin Co, NC. They were the parents of eight children:

  • 1. Hicksey, married Solomon WALKER, 24 Jul 1820, Wake Co, N.C.,
  • 2. Rix/Rixy, born 26 Dec 1804; died 1847; married Martha E FORT 28 Jun 1828, Wake Co, NC.
  • 3. Lucy
  • 4. Candis, born 1816.
  • 5. Margaret
  • 6. Robert Burwell, born 4 Nov 1822, died Sep 1893, Texas, married 1. Sarah A McKINNIE, 2. Mary McKINIE, 7 Jul 1849, 3. Amanda Rollins BURNETT, 13 Sep 1871,
  • 7. Mary, born 1825,
  • 8. John L

Robert Perry's will was probated in the spring of 1837 in Wake County, N.C.

After her husband died, she went to Mississippi with her children, first living in Marshall County and later in Panola County where she died in 1867. Her great-grandson Holiday Hyde Hayley described her this way: "She was the dressiest person I have ever seen. She was eighty years old, I think, when I saw her last, and she dressed all the time as if she were ready for the ball room or a wedding."

RIX PERRY AND MARTHA E FORT

Rix PERRY was born 26 December 1804 in Wake County, North Carolina. On 28 June 1828 he was married to Martha E FORT, daughter of John FORT and Patsy POWELL. They moved to Marshall Co, Mississippi, sometime before 1840. They were the parents of four children:

  • 1. Larkin J W, born 1829, NC; married Texie V BOWEN, 10 Dec 1857, Marshall Co, MS.
  • 2. Geneva Ann Hank, born 13 Oct. 1830, SC; died 22 Apr 1910, Dawson Co. Texas; married Jacob William HAYLEY, 25 Feb. 1847, Marshall Co, MS.
  • 3. John Robert T, born 1833, SC; died 1864, "killed by a Negro while on sick leave," Mississippi; married Sarah V BOWEN, l4 Apr 1859, Marshall Co, MS.
  • 4. Martha Ann Rix, born 1835, SC; married James W DUNNAVANT, 29 Jan 1852, Marshall Co, MS.

The will of Rix Perry, recorded 23 Aug 1847, Marshall Co, MS names only his children so we can assume that Martha preceded him in death.
