DIVORCE OF SUSAN BERRYMAN AND WILSON PENN BERRYMAN P 380 Wilson P Berryman vs Susan Berryman - Libel for Divorce The Defendant Susan Berryman is hereby cited and required personally or by attorney to be and appear at the next Superior Court to be held J B Pittman clk I have this day served the defendant personally with a copy of the GEORGIA, MADISON COUNTY, BOOK N OF WRITS To the Superior court of said County the petition of Susan Berryman shows that on the Second day of February in the year one Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty four she was married to Wilson P Berryman of said county by George Eberhart then a Justice of the inferior Court of said County and continued to live with him as a wife always faithful to him and every respect doing her duty as an industrious and affectionate wife until the sixteenth day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty five on which day for dive indignities and cruelties which he had practised toward her she left his house some of those indignities and cruelties which he had practiced as these to wit soon after the marriage he began to accuse her most falsely of infidelity to him and cohabitation with other men and even of adultery with a negro man and continued to bring such false charges against her till she left him a few days before she left he brutally dragged her over the floor of his house he neglected to provide proper food and clothing for her and in various other ways made her life miserable. she has never made her home at his house since she left him but has lived among her relatives dependant on her labor found their charity for a susistence she further charged that on the day of in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven and on various other days before and after that time the said Wilson P did commit adultery with one Crecy Bragg and at various time since the marriage has been guilty of the same offence with other women. Atty for Libelant Schedule of the property owned and possessed of Wilson P Berryman at the time of the separtation between himself and his wife Susan Berryman Jun 16, 1955 A tract of land of seven hundred acres mor or less in Madison County on Mill shoal Creek 6 Negroes 5 head of horses 16 head of cattle 26 or more goats 10 head of sheep 1 carriage 1 waggon Common plantation tools 5 beda and bedding and bedsteads 1 plain table 1 dressing table 6 chairs Common Cooking utensils Morning Apparet for himself and family An interest in the Estate of Joseph Bragg 3 chests 3 spining wheels 1 side board and slob Georgia - Elbert County Personally appeared before susan Berryman who being sworn says that the schedule in the foregoing page of property owned and possessedof Wilson P Berryman her husband at the time of her separation in June 1855 is correct to the best of her knowledge and beliefe. She makes it out from recollection and there may be some and inacurracies in it but according to her best memory and belief it is correct the aggregate value of all said property at said time was about seven thousand dollars according to the best of her knowledge and belief. The defendant Wilson P Berryman is hereby cited and required personally or of attorney to be and appear at the next Superior Court to be held in and for said county on the first Monday in September then and there to make his answer or defense allegation in writing to plaintiffs libel as in default through the court will proved according to the statute in such cases make and proved witness the honorable Thomas W Thomas Judge of Said Court this July 3 1862. John M clk I have this served the defendant personally with a copy of the foregoing libel for divorse August 3 1862 Susan Berryman vs Wilson Berryman Libel for divorce Returnable to Sept Term 1960 on motion of the libellant it is ordered that the defendant show cause on the first day of September 1860 of this court or soon thereafter as he can heard why he should not pay reasonable alimony to libellant and reasonable fees to her council such alimony and fees to be by the court and that a copy of this order be served on two days before the said next term a time from the minutes of the July term of the Superior Court July 30th 1860.
