JOHNCREWS_OBIT Obituary from the 29 Sep 1864 edition of the Argus, page 3, last column of page: "Died at the residence of his son, Wm. J. Crews, in Crawford Co., Ills., Sept. 20th, 1864, John Crews, aged 95 years, 11 months and 12 days. He was born in Halifax County, VA., Oct. 7, 1768, and lived there until the fall of 1805, when he moved to Tennessee. In the spring of 1817 he removed with his family to Crawford County, Illinois, where he remained until the time of his death. He had been a member of the church for over sixty years. For several years past he had been deprived of the privilege of attending church on account of the loss of his hearing, but during that time he seemed to feel as if he was ready when called for. Although we did not have the privilege of conversing with him prior to his death, we are satisfied he went from this world to a better one. Thus lived and died one of the first settlers of Crawford County." written by John H. Crews.
