OTHER INFORMATION

Wayne County was originally very large. It included parts of what are now Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. It was the third county formed from the Old Northwest Territory and named in honor of General Anthony Wayne of the Revolutionary War.

The county seat of Wooster was laid out in 1808. A German settler, August Imgard, was said to have put up the first Christmas tree in Ohio and possibly first in the nation in 1847.

Main industries include; paper, rubber, food, machinery, transportation equipment, paperboard, ceramic tile, fire fighting equipment, dairy porducts, cattle, calves, poultry, eggs and salt.

Probate Court has birth & death records from 1867 to 1908, marriage records from 1813, probate records from 1812; Clerk of Common Pleas Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1812; County Recorder has land records from 1812.
