OTHER INFORMATION
Noble County formed in 1851 was the last of the 88 counties to be established. Warren Noble was chairman of the committee on new counties at the time of its formation.
The first oil well in Ohio was drilled in 1814 by Jo Caldwell, after whom the county seat was named. A short lived oil boom came after the Civil War, but the markets for salt and oil declined and the county returned to farming.
