OTHER INFORMATION

Montgomery County, takes its name from General Richard Montgomery who died in the assault of Quebec in 1775. The soil in the county is predominantly clay with limestone as a mineral resource.

The county seat of Dayton was the home of Orville and Wilbur Wright, inventors of the first aircraft. Dayton was also the home of James Ritty, inventor of the cash register and Charles Kettering who established the first automobile self-starter ignition system. James M. Cox, owner of several newspapers and governor of Ohio for three terms, also came from Dayton.

Main industries are; machinery, printing and publishing, transportation equipment, metals, food, rubber, paper, household appliances, gray iron castings, cash registers, air conditioning units, sand and gravel.
