OTHER INFORMATION
Meigs County is located on the Ohio River where the soil is both clay and sandy loam. The name is taken from R.J. Meigs, a former governor of Ohio.
When coal was discovered in the area, Pomeroy and Coalport became coal-shipping centers. Pomeroy is the current county seat, and the largest town in the county.
