OTHER INFORMATION

Henry County is located about 40 miles southwest of Toledo in the Black Swamp district. Most of the land has been drained and the surface is generally level. The Maumee River crosses the county.

The county was settled by French and Germans who contested the privilege of naming the county seat. The French won, as the name Napoleon suggests. Napoleon is a prosperous town known for its tomato processing industry.

Soybeans and corn are the original agricultural products in Henry County. Other industries include; metals, rubber, food, machinery, transportation equipment, automotive parts, and molded plastics.

Probate Judge has birth & death records from 1867 to 1908, marriage & probate records from 1847; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1880; County Recorder has land records from 1835.

Recipe for Scotch Eggs

  • 4 medium size hard cooked eggs
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 3 ounces dry bread crumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 ounces bulk breakfast sausage

Shell the eggs and dry them with paper towels. Mix the flour, salt and pepper. Mold the 3 ounces sausage around each egg, coating evenly. Dip each coated egg in beaten egg, then roll in crumbs. Deep fat fry until golden and thoroughly cooked, about 3 minutes. When cool, wrap in foil and take along on your trip. The eggs are best when eaten cold.
